Talking toppers - help?

So now I’m back to ask about toppers again. This time, for my brand-new Sleep EZ all latex mattress. So far, it’s great in terms of support, but it’s kinda low height-wise, and a touch firm for this curvy girl side sleeper. I need more cushion for my curves! A topper should address both of those issues.

I’m 5’2 and 200ish pounds. At a mattress showroom near me that retails Avocado, I tried their 2" Eco latex topper in plush first. And bottomed out on it, no comfort at all. Then I tried the 2" medium. That felt pretty nice. Husband and I are going to go lay on some more toppers at that store this weekend, but they only have a few options available. If I fall in love with something, great. If not, I’ll at least have more info on what I’m looking for.

I’ve read a lot, here and elsewhere, about toppers and the benefits of different materials. We want natural materials - I sleep absurdly hot and need breathability. And obviously I need materials that will offer some more cushion to help when I sleep on my side. I’m actually reclined in bed right now typing this, and I’m quite comfy on my back! It’s really just when I switch to my side that there’s a little discomfort.

I’ve looked at a few different latex options, including some from the TM’s here. I’m leaning towards Talalay if we go with a slab of latex. Not sure if I should go with 2" or 3", and whether I should try soft again, or stick with medium. My new mattress has a medium Talalay comfort layer, and yet I’m finding things too firm for my tastes. I know the thicker the topper, the more the change in feel. I don’t want to lose the support this mattress gives me, but I think I really do need a decent buffer, given my weight and shape.

I’m also considering the comfort, cushioning, and temperature control of wool. My ideal would probably be a topper that combines the two. Or perhaps two toppers that I’d layer together? Would that even be feasible? (Would it hold together? Make the bed feel wobbly? Slide on the mattress top?) I’m not sure.

Anyway, I have read the posts here, and they have been helpful! But I noticed at least some of the conversations (or the links others have suggested in more recent threads) are a decade plus old, so some brands have shut down, some items have been discontinued, and of course others have taken their place.

So tell me - what toppers do you have? What do you love? Do you ever combine them? I’m open to suggestions, so long as they’ll bring me a generous touch of softness and won’t cause me to melt. Help?

If your Sleep EZ feels a touch firm and you want more cushion without losing support, I do recommend going for a 3 Talalay latex topper in soft . At your weight and as a side sleeper, the extra thickness will let your hips and shoulders sink just enough to relieve pressure, while Talalay stays breathable and won’t trap heat.

If you want to blend softness with temperature control, a 1–2" wool topper layered over the latex works very well. The wool helps with moisture-wicking and keeps you cooler, while the latex provides the plushness you need. Just make sure both have good quality covers organic cotton works great and use a fitted sheet deep enough to hold them together without sliding.
hope this help
