Tempflow vs. SleepEZ for hot sleeper

Hello,

This is a wonderful forum. I have spent many hours reading through it. I ended up purchasing a Christeli Briella memory foam mattress, but it is sleeping too hot. I am now considering a Tempflow memory foam mattress or a SleepEZ talalay latex mattress. Do you have any thoughts on which would sleep cooler? I have read the many excellent posts here about how things other than the mattress have a great impact on how hot a mattress feels. Right now I am just trying to get an idea of what people think about the mattress alone, assuming all other bedding, etc. being equal.

The Tempflow folks recommended the Gaia for my body and sleep characteristics, and I am looking at the Natural Latex 10,000 from SleepEZ.

Thanks very much.

Hi js500,

As you mentioned sleeping temperature has many variables (outside of the sheets and bedding) including the softness of the comfort layers, how deeply you sink into them, how closely they “surround” you, and the moisture wicking and airflow through the cover, quilting, and ticking materials. While both mattresses would probably be fine in terms of sleeping temperature for most people, a latex mattress with a wool quilted cover would likely sleep cooler than a memory foam mattress where you are sleeping directly on the memory foam.

Phoenix,

Thanks very much for your feedback. I will likely go with the SleepEZ. It seems to be highly regarded here and elsewhere, and I like that I can rearrange the layers to achieve a different feel on each side of the bed in a split design. My main concern is that there could be a gap in the middle of the mattress if the layers shift. Some have reported this issue, but it does not seem like it would be a big deal with one person sleeping on either side of the gap, if a gap even forms in the first place.

Hi js500,

There is more about split layers in post #2 here and as you can see with a suitable tight fitting quilted cover there won’t be any issues with any “gap” in the center of your mattress. There are also some comments here about the very few reviews (out of tens of thousands that have been sold by many manufacturers) that mention having any issues with layers shifting with a split layering.

Thanks Phoenix. I just ordered the SleepEZ 10,000 latex mattress with soft, medium, and firm layers split down the middle, all talalay. The process was easy and the salesman was knowledgeable. I also received the 5% discount for being a member of this site. I should receive the mattress in about a week, after which I’ll follow up with some impressions. Thank you for your help and for this wonderful site.

Hi js500,

Congratulations on your new mattress

I think you made a great choice and I’m looking forward to your feedback once you’ve received it.

We’ve had the SleepEZ 10000 latex mattress for a couple of weeks now. It is fantastic! I initially had both sides configured with the soft layer on top, medium in the middle, and firm on the bottom. It turned out that this was too soft for my sleep patterns, which mainly alternate between side and stomach sleeping. No problem, though. I just moved the layers to put the medium on top, firm in the middle, and soft on the bottom. It is now perfect. No more aches when getting out of bed. I made the same layer change for my wife.

The mattress sleeps much cooler than the memory foam mattress that we returned. I kept everything else constant (sheets, room temperature, pajamas, etc.), so I think the change truly was due to the mattress itself. My wife thinks the latex mattress sleeps slightly hotter than an old innerspring mattress we used to have, but I cannot tell the difference. In any event, she has no issue with heat on this mattress like she did with the memory foam one.

After testing the mattress without a protector for a few nights just to see how it performed on its own, we added a St. Dormeir wool protector. It made a slight difference for the better as well. I suspect it would have made more of a difference if we hadn’t already been happy with how the SleepEZ sleeps.

I highly recommend the SleepEZ product, and their service was very good as well.

Thanks again for this great forum.
