Tempur original cover - options for cleaning

Hey, hoping somebody might be able to help.

Tempur original mattress cover removable but label states do not wash.

Label indicates materials used are 98% polyester, 2% elastane and pu foam for the filling.

Any suggestions for cleaning?

Or to help me understand why they’re not washable from a technical point of view.

Replacements are unavailable unfortunately.

Thanks

Hi Bedguy42,
Welcome and thanks for the question.

I am not quite sure about the issues with the Tempur Cover and washing it. Even though the cover is made of 98% polyester and 2% elastane (both washable materials), the polyurethane (PU) foam filling is likely the reason for the warning. PU foam is sensitive to moisture and agitation, which can break down the foam structure, it can trap moisture, leading to mold or mildew, cause deformation or shrinkage of the cover

Additionally, Tempur-Pedic costantly states the tempur material itself should never get wet, and some covers are designed in a way that makes it hard to separate the foam from the fabric. Additionally in the same vain, if you wash it, and it does not dry completely, moisture remaining in the cover can get onto the mattress, and problems can arise.

Spot clean is likely your best bet. But you should speak with @Tempflow and ask if their is something from their inventory that can accommodate your mattress.

Sorry, I could not be too helpful here, but it is a tough spot to be in.

Maverick.

Thanks for the detailed reply, helpful to know it’s likely the pu foam that is the difficulty and the reasons why.

Seems like spot clean is the way to go and ensuring it’s kept as dry as possible during and before refitting.
