Hello everyone, sorry for my english
I have a Tempur Original Bed (Made in Denmark) for over 15 years and have several moving can say that the mattresses have not had it easy, well zero sagging !! Just a bit more flexible than the hen was new.
My questions is, I’ve read on the net that many say was the first Tempur better quality? Were they also better for your health because the Scandinavia countries are usually very green.
Thanks !
Hi Polyphasicsleep,
You’re fortunate to have a mattress that has lasted you so long.
The original Tempurpedic used 2.8" of 5.3 lb memory foam on top of a 5" polyfoam support core (which I believe was 2.2 lbs). Their closest current match would be the Contour Supreme which uses 1.2" of 5.3 lb memory foam on top of 2.4" of 5.3 lb memory foam on top of a 3" polyfoam base layer on top of a 5" polyfoam base layer (both of which are 2.0 lbs). They would have a different feel and firmness level because of the differences in the design but they are very similar in terms of quality/durability.
Memory foam is a synthetic foam made from a combination of dozens of chemicals and there are many people that are sensitive to it (see here) although it may be a relatively small percentage of people. It’s certainly not a material that anyone could call “healthy” although it could be called “safe” for those that don’t have any “symptoms” when they sleep on it.
Unlike many other memory foam companies, Tempurpedic doesn’t publish any information that indicates low levels of harmful substances and VOC’s in their mattress and anecdotally they seem to receive a larger share of the complaints about sensitivities so if anything they would be a bigger concern with safety than many other memory foam mattresses although this may also be because they are the largest selling memory foam mattress.
Memory foam and polyfoam are both synthetic foams and are far from being a “green” material.
