I know a lot of people on here love latex, but I cannot tolerate it. The pushback and lack of contouring is really hard on my body, partly due to my size - 5’3", 115lbs, and my spinal issues requiring a lot of pressure relief.
I am looking at a Tempurpedic hybrid mattress, both because I want the coils for support, and because I of increased airflow vs an all foam bed.
I know that one downside of memory foam is sinking too much. Tempurpedic doesn’t disclose the density of the foams used in their beds, they only label them “High Density” or “Ultra High Density”. Is it just the number of inches or also the density, and how do I figure out what’s appropriate for my body - other than what “feels good”? With spinal conditions (degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritiis, cervical stenosis, bulging discs, scoliosis, piriformis syndrome), proper spinal alignment is just as important as pressure relief.
Is there a certain depth of memory foam in the comfort layer I should not go above? Should I lean toward the beds that have less comfort material or a higher density and how does the transition layer play into all this?
The comfort layers are as folllows for their 3 Medium Hybrids -
- Adapt - 1.6" TEMPUR
- Pro Adapt - 2" Ventilated TEMPUR
- Luxe Adapt - 1.2" Ventilated TEMPUR and 2.4" UHD Memory Foam
The Transition layers are as follows:
- Adapt - 1.6" HD TEMPUR
- Pro Adapt - 2" UHD Memory Foam - Advanced Pressure Relief Material
- Luxe Adapt - 1.2" UHD Memory Foam - Advanced Pressure Relief Material
Then Support Layers -
- Adapt - 6" Pocket Springs - 1,160 with 2" poly foam
- Pro Adapt - 6" Pocket Springs - 1,160 with 2" poly foam
- Luxe Adapt - 6" Pocket Springs - 1,300 Double-Stacked with 2" of Poly Foam
The Adapt model felt too hard for us (we like a Med-Soft Feel - i.e., a solid 5/10 on a firmness scale), the Luxe was our favorite feel, and the Pro was acceptable.
All of the reports by Tempurpedic bed owners of back pain worries me, especially given the price of these beds. We have their pillows - the Cloud and the Adapt ProLo and love them.
Can you give me any guidance?
