tempurpedic choice luxe

We walked into a mattress store yesterday with the plan to buy a tempurpedic cloud luxe - we had a good quote that the store wanted to beat - we were ready, we had even made room in a guest bedroom for the horrific outgassing …
After 2 hours in the store we walked out with a tempurpedic choice luxe ( this is tempurpedics airbed with two adjustable air bladders - one for head and feet and one for the lumbar area)
Why did we change our mind? Well - the choice luxe was a store return and over 60%off - that was enough for us to take a significant risk :cheer: AND this mattress did not smell anymore - not even a little - no outgassing whatsoever- a huge plus for me.

We were able to get the mattress in our car and I have slept on it for the first night … I was expecting to wake up sore and in pain- but I woke up quite rested- the only problem I had was that I kept waking myself up analyzing my sleep position and waiting for some pain to show up lol …
This mattress is a weird animal for a tempurpedic- there are a little over 5inches of memory foam in two layers - just like in the cloud luxe resting on the two independant air cushions with some stiffer foam around it to support the base. The mattress features a zipper that lets you access the inside. Inside the casing you will find a cotton sock ( also zippered) around the 2 memory foam layers ( glued together), the air cushions and the corner support foam. -
The remote control shows bars and not numbers but you can quite easily remember your setting or use the memory button - it also has a " medium" button which gets the mattress to a medium firmness. The pump is pretty quiet. One pump controls two zones and with a twin bed you will get a pump capable of controlling two mattresses and two remotes ( why???)
On the stiffer settings this mattress feels a little stiffer than a cloud luxe but not quite as " dead" as an all foam mattress, on the softer settings you can get more of an air bed feeling.

I woke up with no back pain - I slept on medium most of the night but realized that I need something softer for my always finicky shoulder ( and of course I have to figure out the pillow situation) - I will try a softer setting tonight.

It is too early to say anything about long term comfort but the first impression was positive.

I would love to post pictures but I have not been successful so far ( Help??? ) can’t add the pictures as attachments- is there another way?

Hi flybear,

Thanks for the feedback on the Tempurpedic Choice Luxe

I’d love to see your pictures but I’m not sure what the issue is. It could be browser related (some browsers seem to have some difficulties with the attachment process) or sometimes you have to click inside the window above the “add file” box to bring up the window to choose the file you want to attach. It could also be related to the size of the files (the limit is 2 MB). Either way … if you aren’t successful then if you can email the pictures to me (at the contact email on top of the page) I’ll attach them for you or reduce the file size and attach them.

I will work on the pictures the next few days …
I think it is great to have a mattress with an all around zipper - the choice luxe has a smart system where you can unzip the entire top and wash it without having to drag the rest of the casing off the bed - the foam is still kept in place by the cotton casing inside that also unzips- you could also switch out the foam if you want

The first night I slept with a mattress cover - some brand name - protect a bed maybe ? and it was hot - I have since removed the protector and replaced it with two cotton sheets and no more temperature issues.

One of the first observations on this mattress was that the casing makes a huge difference in feel - the casing top on this bed is relatively stiff compared to other tempurpedic models and it influence the memory foam feel quite significantly- it feels different from a cloud luxe on the surface … however because the casing unzips easily you can remove the top and sleep directly on the foam - the feel of the foam with only a sheet feels as close to sleeping on a cloud as you can possibly get - many will worry about warranties and such though so it is up to you to try …

The mattress was put to the test immediately - a prolapsed spinal disk the day after we got the new bed … and this bed has saved me from painful nights and even more painful days … I admit - I am in love! I had expected an adjustment period but I loved the bed from the very first night. I go to bed with a very painful neck and back and can actually sleep - as long as I don’t move too much my back rests quite comfortably and pain free- I sneak into the bedroom over the day just to get some relief- the shredded latex pillow is a perfect match to this mattress - never - in several decades have I experienced anything like this - after only 3 days I can move quite normally - a miracle compared to the weeks of recovery and pain meds it usually takes …And my hands are not numb anymore when I wake up - first time in years …
I keep my lumbar air cushions more firm than the head/legs and it seems to eliminate the hammock effect and align my spine quite nicely- you also don’t get that " wave" feeling of one chamber air beds. Adjustable air pressure in two zones is helpful with the relative softness of the " luxe" foam that some people complain about.
The foam itself is very soft and super conforming - but because the casing is a little stiffer you won’t get quite the contouring feel of a cloud luxe unless you remove the top. The foam above the air cushions is of such a high quality that the feeling is far from " air mattress with foam topper"- for me it amplifies the " sleeping on a cloud" feel of the foam and is very subtle. This is far from a Sleep Number bed and the quality seems much better " under the hood"-support foam, air system even the edge support is superior.
If you put this mattress on an adjustable base the head tilting will mess with the air pressure and you might want to check your settings after going flat again.

I never believed the commercials of tempurpedic - I figured that people would say things like " it was worth every penny" because they had to justify the insane amount of money somehow - after spending this much money you simply want to love your mattress - right? I have to admit that after a few days of awesome sleep and pain relief I would spend the money again - yes even at full price.
I have slept on 4 different memory foam mattresses and one inner spring in the last 2 years - all good quality and none of them came close to the experience of this one.

A month on the new mattress and I am still happy - I washed the top or the mattress casing and this has gotten rid of the initial stiffness - the foam is fully broken in and oh so heavenly soft but without making me wake up in a hole …
I have settled on a slightly softer than medium setting both for head/ feet and lumbar and my back and neck have never felt better - i am going to bed ealier that i need to just so I can lounge with a good book for a while and I need an alarm clock to coax me out of bed.I feel no sagging comparable to sleep number type one chamber beds and no wave effect either. The foam is body conforming but I can still roll over and rotate without rolling against hills and valleys. For the first time in decades I can sleep in all positions and my hip and shoulder issues have disappreared.

The air cushions took about a week to break in - not sure to describe it - initially you set the firmness level and whenever I used the adjustable frame I had to re- set it a little- it never lost/gained air during the night - only after moving the frame up and down - maybe the air cussions stretched out - no idea but after a week the firmness level stayed solid no matter what - i have not touched the control in a week now at least … Firmess stayed constant in a power outage too - just don’t mess with the control when the power is out

Love the bed - had to sleep on a sleepnumber i10 last week at a friends house and it is no match for the tempurpedic as far as pressure relief goes - I now know why my friends put the i10 in the guest room;-)

Hi flybear,

Thanks for taking the time to share another great update … I appreciate it
