Tempurpedic Luxe Adapt vs Luxe Breeze for Severe Leg & Hip Pain

Seeking Mattress Advice After Surgery

I recently underwent femur surgery and need six more leg and knee surgeries due to being hit by a car in a crosswalk. Because of these ongoing issues, I’ve been sleeping very poorly for the past several months.

Current Mattress Situation

  • My current mattress is a Sealy Posturepedic firm mattress (exact model unknown).
  • It feels incredibly uncomfortable—like sleeping on the sidewalk—and I never liked it, but it was all I could afford earlier in my career.
  • I also use the Sealy High-Profile box spring.

Personal Details

  • I’m 34, 6'2", and weighed 185-190 lbs before my injuries. Since then, I’ve gained weight and now weigh 250 lbs.
  • My wife is 32, 5'1", and weighs 130 lbs.

What We’ve Tried

After reading the Mattress Shopping Tutorial and forums, my wife and I visited a few local Mattress Firm stores in Houston. Here are mattresses we liked:

Tempur-Pedic Luxe Breeze Soft

  • This mattress was perfect for me with an adjustable bed stand. Elevating my legs significantly reduced the pressure on my legs and hips (the adjustable lumbar support was great, too).
  • Concerns:
    • The salespeople seemed overly focused on pushing the sale, which made me skeptical of their advice.
    • The price is substantial—around $10,000 for the mattress and smart base.
    • I loved the “soft” model, but I’m unsure if it suits my weight. Will it maintain this comfort level or become too soft to support me?
    • Some users recommend the medium or medium-hybrid models, claiming they soften over time. Would these be better, given my weight and injuries?

Sealy Posturepedic Plus Hybrid High Point 14" Plush Mattress

  • This mattress felt cool to the touch and provided good support for my back, hips, and legs, though not as perfect as the Luxe Breeze.
  • It’s also half the price, making it a more budget-friendly option.

Tempur-Pedic Luxe Adapt

  • We plan to revisit the store to try the Luxe Adapt models, as we didn’t get a chance to test them during our first visit, but I'm seeing more people discuss this line than the Luxe Breeze.

Questions

  1. Is the Tempur-Pedic Luxe Breeze Soft a good choice for someone with my weight and injuries, or should I consider the medium/medium-hybrid for long-term durability?
  2. For a $10,000 investment, how many years of use can I realistically expect from this mattress and adjustable bed base combination (5, 10, or 15 years)?
  3. Is there a type of mattress that you'd recommend instead?

I know this is a niche situation, but any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Luxe Adapt is more conforming than Luxe Breeze. LB seems more brittle due to cooling emphasis.

I like Luxe Adapt Firm myself, but try new Luxe Adspt Medium hybrid and Luxe Adapt Soft. I woulc steer clear of Breeze line, unless you like it!

I just bought a Back Science 2. Love it! Great spine support! You might look into Back Science 3 because it is even more plush and meant for side sleepers! They can be customized! Consider Back Science 2 also. I chose BS2 because it was better for back sleeping. “Perfect spinal alignment while laying on a soft cloud” Im 5 11 and 235 pounds.
