Live this site. We used it to determine a new mattress. We narrowed it down to Sleep on Latex and the Latex Mattress Factory. We decided the Latex Mattress Factiry because we could change out the soft layer if we thought the bed was too firm.
Hi Dllslon:

Congrats for your new Latex Mattress Factory mattress!
We ordered a medium base with a medium topper. We made a call the next day just to make sure of the combination and he said since my husband is 6’9" and 235 that a medium/medium was the way to go. As I said before we chose them because you could return a topper for $45. When we received our bed it was 3- 3" toppers. One inside a mattress cover. Which meant we had to wrestle one of the 3" layers inside the cover. When I say wrestle, I mean wrestle. When we called and they called back, they said they were sorry that they can’t ship king mattress all together. Then someone or somewhere on their site should say that so I can make a choice. We decided to keep it and try.We had the bed for 2 weeks. My husband slept deeply and I slept well. My shoulders and neck seemed to be sore in the morning. So we called to exchange the medium topper for a soft one. It is difficult to get someone on the phone. You have to leave a message and they call back. They do seem to answer emails quicker. So he said I pay the $45 and then he will mail the soft topper with a return label and then after I get it I would return the medium one. I received !/2 a topper. I mean ONLY covered 1/2 my bed. What was I gonna do with that. Tried to call and again answering machine. Emailed also. they emailed back and said their phones were down. Decided to return the whole thing. All the little things from this company just wasn’t for us. I mean what am I suppose to do with a topper that is in two pieces.
On to a Sleep Number with a latex topper or Sleep on Latex. :((
Hi Dllslon.
I’m sorry your purchase didn’t work for you as well as you had hoped.
Your description wasn’t very clear to me as to what you ordered, so I contacted Latex Mattress Factory to see if they could assist me in understanding.
In your order for a California King, The Natural Latex Mattress in 7" comes in two 3" pieces (for ease of shipping) of Dunlop latex (both medium in your case), with the zippered cover containing 1" of wool quilted to the top. This 7" zippered cover is intended for the two 3" layers of latex only (or did you order a special 9" cover that is different from the cover that comes normally with the Natural Latex Mattress?). You also ordered a California King 3" extra piece of medium Dunlop latex (which I believe you are referring to here as the “topper”), but no cover was ordered for that. This third piece of 3" of latex isn’t designed to fit into the cover for the Natural Latex mattress, as that is designed only to hold two 3" pieces of latex, hence your issue with having to “wrestle” three 3" layers into a cover designed to only hold two 3" layers. I can see how that would be a struggle.
You stated that you called to exchange the topper for a softer layer, which would be one medium 3" California King layer for one soft 3" layer. I’m unsure of your description of only receiving ½ of a layer – do you mean that you were sent a 3" layer that was “half” of a California King layer, which would be 36" x 84"? Did you return the entire mattress, or did you keep some of the componentry for use with a future mattress?
I’m sorry this didn’t work out well for you, but if you do order another latex system, please be sure to be aware of the assembly of the componentry and the exact layering that will fit within each encasement to achieve the best comfort, especially if you’re ordering from a site specializing in componentry, as sometimes you have to order separate items (latex layers, covers) by themselves in order to achieve your completed product.
As for your shoulder and neck issues, with any new mattress you’ll also want to reevaluate your pillow, as you may sink in more or less than on your previous mattress, and your current pillow may now be inappropriate in thickness to keep your neck in a more neutral alignment, and that could have been the real cause of your issues in that area.

Thank you for all your help. Yes I mean I received a 36" x 84" piece. Which only fit 1/2 the bed. I think their products are good. I think it is their communication that was one of the biggest issues. I’m not sure at all why I would receive 1/2 the size of my bed. The gentleman never mentioned that and I would never agree to have two different pieces of Latex on my mattress. We could have worked something different out. Like in shipping my mattress in two pieces, I feel like it just needed to be spoken out loud when my husband spoke with them. Again thank you for all your help and explanation.
Hi Dllslon,
Thank you for the clarification. If I had to guess, it probably was a simple error in what was shipped out to you from LMF. Many people with a King or California King mattress have the foam layers split on the left and right side, so that each person may create their own layering comfort combination. So there obviously was unfortunately either an error or confusion with the order entry for your exchange.
