Why are we big on this brand? Mattress Foundations was started because customers were frustrated with the flimsy options available, and we are on the bandwagon of adjustments that make this product a true “must-have” for your overall wellbeing and restful sleep. They wanted something strong, natural, non-toxic, built to last, and sleep and wellbeing enhancing. And they nailed it.

Hi, I was interested in getting the Terra Foundation. I am pretty sensitive to smells. I had a KD Frame previously that didn’t seem to bother me. I think they use poplar wood. It appears this Terra uses spruce wood. I’m wondering if anyone knows how strong the smell is with this frame? I asked the support and they said it wasn’t that strong but also noted it wasn’t returnable, so I’m trying to get thoughts from others who have used it. Thanks.

Hi, @Maverick, do you own the Terra foundation?

No, I had purchased a ironwoodbedframesandmattress kd bed frame just prior to the Terra being introduced. Had i waited another 2 months, at the time, I would have bought the Terra.

I will say that so far the ironwood is working ok so far, but is not as solid as the Terra.

Yeah the Ironwood looks pretty good, but I mainly wanted the Terra one because I’m testing a theory my slats on my current frame are too far away and it seems to have them a lot closer plus they are thicker. I guess I’ll have to wait to see if anyone has this Terra foundation yet to see how it smells. Do you know what type of wood the Ironwood uses?

Ironwood uses spruce wood.

Ah, so similar, how does yours smell? This is the one I was going to get before researching more: https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/sleepnest-16-steel-bed-frame-bvcb1001.html but I started to rethink it based on many people saying it arrives beat up and bent a lot.

Mine did not smell when i got it. Not even that fresh cut wood smell. That wayfair frame doesn’t look half bad. I wish the slats were wider, but for the price, the Terra is better.

Interesting, well thanks for replying.

Oh, one more thing, did you get a cover for your frame or would you recommend using the cover when using an all memory foam mattress? I wonder how it affects the airflow.

It came with a cover. Plus i threw my old mattress protector, on top of that to further protect the box from gathering dust.

Sounds ok then to leave the cover on. I think I will get this soon, just waiting on a minor point which is that it says it has 18 slats and 1.5" apart but the assembly seems to say 17 slats and 2" apart, but either one would be better than what I have now.

If i remember correctly, something had to do with the picture on their website and the size of the frame. I forgot what the details were, but we can ask.

Hello Miclus,

Thank you for your inquiries. Our Terra foundations are built from kiln-dried Spruce wood and feature 18 slats in the Twin XL, Cal Splits and Queen sizes, and 17 slats in the Twin and Full sizes. Each slat measures 3/4" thick and 2 1/2" wide, with a spacing of 1 5/8" between slats.

We have not received any feedback regarding odors from the Terra foundation. I personally own one and noticed no odor during assembly or at any point afterward.

The cover that fits over the slats is designed to cover only the top and sides, leaving the bottom open. This design does not affect breathability, so there’s no difference in airflow whether the cover is on or off. Similarly, we have not received any customer reports of breathability issues with the cover in place.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out. Have a great day!
