topper bed progress pic !

well here it is ! three talalay toppers plus a 3" piece of HD foam, with snugfleece elite on top

the height so far is 10" now that i finally took the old mattress out from underneath i can move on to final design stages and decide which if any more layers to add, because i can now test it properly.

also the bed frame seen here is of a do-it-yourself variety but it wasn’t made by me, and i won’t be using it for the final system because it isn’t heavy duty enough.

i will give you DIYers out there this advice though - if you don’t have a son or a brother or somebody to help you - may want to stick with thinner pieces of foam ! because to add just one layer as it comes in you pretty much have to take all layers off and carry them to where you can put them on other beds then carry them back, and carrying 60 x 80 inches pieces all by yourself can get pretty tiring if they’re heavy, and especially tiring if they’re firm foam and will not roll up properly. so try not to order things like 6" king size latex core unless you have somebody to help you move it !

as the toppers came in one at a time and i had to shuffle everything over and over again i am pretty sore right now. almost makes me want to not order any more layers just so i wouldn’t have to do it all over again

so there is $950 ( including any tax and shipping ) of foam in this image, and frankly it is already a lot more comfortable than Pure Latex Bliss Nature that i almost pulled the trigger on for over $2,000 ( including any tax and shipping ). In fact it feels very similar to PLB World’s Best Bed.

and unlike PLB world’s best bed i can proceed to customize it as i wish, whereas the only customization you can have with world’s best bed is throwing a topper on top of it.

now i am NOT encouraging anybody to try and do this, because i think for many of you this could end rather badly …

if you have the right kind of mind for this type of project the biggest downside IMO is the sheer amount of TIME that it takes. if i bought that PLB i would have had it in probably 3 days. instead it has been 3 weeks and my TESTING is still ongoing based on which the puzzle will have to be completed. certainly if you have nothing to sleep on this method is not going to work for you.

i have yet to remove the covers from any of the toppers, and i know when i do the mattress will soften up - until that is done i won’t really know what i have even at this point.

very time consuming …
