So to clarify, I’m from Europe and we have ‘boxsprings’ over here, which are very popular. The boxspring consists of 2 mattresses, each with big coils/springs, and a topper, usually ~ 2 inch/5cm thick for comfort. See attached image for more information.
You could try the topper. Engineered sleep makes thicker and more intricate toppers. If they ship to you check out the duo lift. Its got a quadmini spring layer with an inch of wool on the top and the bottom and its all quilted together. The price is about $675 but they have a discount code on here. Or you could try 3" of soft latex in a topper cover. They also have the duo latex plus thats made with latex but my favorite is the lift.
Hi, thanks for your reply. There already is a mattress, as you can see in the photo (not mine but an example). On top of that blocky mattress with springs, then you need a topper, but otherwise the boxspring is too uncomfortable.
What i was saying is here we use a whole regular mattress thats not like the box youre using, but we put it on top of the box. Thats what my parents do anyway.
But yes there are toppers you could use to improve what youve got. As long as the box spring is solid and firm enough. Whether if youre getting a new topper, a whole regular non box spring mattress, the platform its sitting on needs to be completely solid with not much spacing between the parts that what you get is sitting on.
My preference is for a bed frame that has slats, but no box spring. I ordered a zinus model and it only cost me $125 from walmart.com and was easy to set up. Then i just put a standard mattress on it, one that has pocket coils instead of having a box spring. Total cost could be kept down to about 1200 or maybe even less.
European mattresses are…special. I’ve never enjoyed a sleep experience on a hotel mattress in Europe in my entire life. It’s literally like…as you described…sleeping on a box spring.
Now, if the coils are firm enough, a better topper could be a good solution to your issue.
Another option is to add a thin stabilization layer atop that boxspring (like a coconut coir pad) and then the topper, to give a bit more firmness.
I guess the coils are good enough. How to check? Its not (mini) pocket coils (I guess they’re called that?), but big, firm coils.
The problem with a GOOD topper is that theres latex and foam. Good ones, queen size, 3" thick, can be pretty expensive. Thats why I try to understand if its worth it
Also, how exactly would a coir pad work? Its not that I’m getting the pressure relief and support I need right now.
Might I suggest you replace the topper with a 2 inch (54mm) cotton futon mattress. The all cotton ones are much more dense and provide support but take the rigidity out of the Euro mattresses and still provide a comfortable top. I have used this trick on cheap pocket spring mattresses here in the U.S. It works.
I remember the mattresses as you describe. I found them much better for we who are larger than average. I wonder if I can find a seller over there that will ship to the states (and isn’t bothered by all this stupid tariff business).
