I gotcha! I felt that way with dunlop, but talalay has been different for me- time will tell though

welp, I tried this fancy Helix topper that has 1.7" of memory foam followed by a mesh that i think is metal. Then there is 2" of 30ILD foam under that. Well I just felt like i was laying on a table so I went back to my 4" 12ILD memory foam from foam factory.
I think I need to learn more about layering. I have read some stuff on here. I think I want a progressive design with something like 12 ILD then 20 then 30. I haven’t had luck with latex, memory or HR foam. Feedback? Thickness of layers? Where to buy?

what i haven’t tried is a talalay as a layer only. Where do you get a 1 or 2 inch layer of that in soft?

I think @Arizona_Premium might offer Talalay? I have never ordered from them personally, but have heard great things! Otherwise, I know Savvy Rest can sell separate layers, but I know it’s not cheap. I have only slept on dunlop myself, but after trying talalay I will say it’s much different. I was sold. Will update once I receive my new mattress and try it out!

Also I wanted to add that I spent months attempting a DIY build.. I know how frustrating and time consuming it can be. I had to call it quits after a while and instead spend my time finding a mattress that was built by professionals. I am praying the one I chose is it! I did learn a LOT in the DIY process though. And my makeshift solution has gotten me through the past 8 months just fine, just not ideal for super long term use.

i ended up ordering a 2 inch Talalay topper from Latex Mattress factory. I wonder if there is a real quality reason that Savvy Rest is pricey. Looking forward to see how your new mattress works out. I’m just learning the DIY so trying lots of things.

Yes I know the trial and error process all too well! I have never ordered from LMF, but I sincerely hope their 2 inch topper works out for you. Keep us posted!!!

The quadmini is a 3" medium/soft firmness transition layer that cradles your body. I put it directly on top of my 8" spring layer.

The bamboo topper is just the name of it, it’s white and has the word “bamboo” in green all over it. It’s just a super plush top layer

i think i’m plunging into the DIY thing. Would you mind listing off your layers and/or the thought behind them?
My layers are the firm 8" springs from texaspocket springs, the 3" quad mini on top and then i put whatever foam i feel like sleeping on on top of that, into a 15" stretch cotton cover i bought from them. The cost for the springs and cover was $1000.
I honestly don’t believe its necessary to get the stretch cover for $350 and the quadmini layer. Sure they’re nice but if i were to do it over again i would have got their standard 15.5g medium spring on its own, then bought one of the zippered encasements ive seen on walmart.com or aliexpress. $350 for an encasement is just a lot. Especially when you can encase it for less than $100. All you have to do is research to find a good one, i found one that’s all cotton and looked fine, and one that had a bamboo top and one that had a tencel top.
My foam layer that goes on top of the quadmini is a medium/soft latex/memory foam hybrid i bought from nest and wild at the factory, when i visited them. Then i put that $40 “bamboo” topper over everything because it’s about 1" of super plush material, and then i zip up the cover around it.
If i were to do it over again, id just get the standard medium 15.5g spring from them, and some good 12" cheap mattress encasement, put a 1" layer of firm foam first on the bottom (might have to cut a little bit off the sides because it fits a bit big, then the springs, then a .5" layer of hd36 high density foam, and then a 2.5" egg crate hd36 high density layer on top. Either that, or i would put a 2" energex foam on top. You could call nest and wild to see if they would ship you just that later but they may not.

thanks for sharing. So far my plan is 
- comfort layer - 2 inch 12 ild memory foam or 2 inch 15ILD memory foam or 3 inch 15ILD memory foam or 2 inch serene foam (all ordered)
- transition layer - 2 inch 19ILD talalay (ordered) or some sort of 20 something ILD foam
- support - Bedgear bed or diy foundation or 30 ILD from the Helix topper or HD36 foam (2 inch HD36 ordered and 1 inch ordered)
I’m just learning of this HD36 foam. Seems like it is supposed to hold up.
That hybrid thing you got at nest and wild sounds good.
Any feedback on my ideas?

Youve spent a crazy amount of money on this…id try the latex on top of the 2" memory foam on top of the bedgear bed and put your fitted sheet over the whole thing. That latex is soft but still has some bounce. When you place it on top of the memory foam, it settles that down a lot, basically making the comfort later behave similar to hybrid foam.
Just rearrange everything you got on your bedgear bed till you find something that works for you
That serene foam functions similarly to hybrid foam so it’s soft and fairly responsive. Wont be sinky like memory foam and won’t be bouncy like latex
