Hello all. So we are not able to get a king mattress up our stairs up our stairs due to space constraints.
I know some mattresses come in a box. I was wondering if there were only a handful of companies that offer this someone could list them or if there are too many to list donāt worry about it. Thanks.
Maybe this would narrow it down a little . Iām about 220 and my wife 180. We both sleep on our sides⦠would like something not so firm.
Welcome back to the Mattress Underground ! Good to see you again and thanks for your question.
Could you describe the space constraints that your stairwell has? You donāt mention what type king mattress that youāre interested in, but there are hinged king mattresses available (in fact, many of them are hinged), allowing the mattress to be folded in half for the purpose of moving.
The mattress you refer to is commonly called a āBed-in-a-Boxā mattress or simply āBIBā. These mattresses are manufactured using materials and constructions that are suitable for compression with roll pack machines and generally ship in 1 or more boxes, depending on how many separate pieces are involved (i.e., support base, mattress pillow top, bundled pillows + linens, etc.). With the innovations the industry has seen following the explosive popularity of Casperās simple āone size fits mostā comfort/ support needs, many manufacturers have followed suit and offer at least one BIB model in their product offering. When working with a reputable manufacturer or showroom, such as one of TMUs Trusted Members, these mattresses combine excellent quality and value, and can be a sound alternative to a traditional innerspring mattress. Itās compact, compressed state makes it ideal for stairwell space constraints as you mention. Some manufacturers also offer white glove delivery service where for a separate fee, someone(s) would arrive at your address after mattress delivery, move the boxes to the designated room, set up the mattress and remove/dispose of the packing materials for you. There are +150 online mattress manufacturers that specialize in Bed-in-a-Box mattresses, far too many to list here, and TMU doesnāt recommend any who havenāt passed thestrict vetting criteria for ensuring the highest quality, value, and transparency when working with consumers. A good start would be a review of our trusted member directory.
Thanks for including a few of your personal stats, that helps with understanding some of your comfort and support needs. To get a better picture, could you tell me about your current mattress: what brand and type is it? How old is your mattress? What qualities do you like about it and what ones would you prefer to avoid in a future mattress purchase? You mention interest in a king size; have you a budget in mind?
My wife primarily cares about side sleeper and does not sleep hot.
My stairs are like and L shape.
1st part has about 5 steps the. The landing. The landing open to above but the at the last step before the landing there a ceiling so itās about 7 ā . Itās hard to explain.
We have a Casper right now and like it but it sleeps hot. Thatās really the only negative . Thanks

You shouldnāt have any problems getting a King-size Bed-in-a-Box mattress up these stairs as you describe them, as the mattresses are compressed/ roll-packed and boxed in packaging designed for portability. Depending on the type King mattress that you go with, some can be extremely heavy (in the case of all-latex, for example), requiring two strong people to maneuver the box(es). If you are planning to replace your Casper and the one thing you donāt like about it is that it āsleeps hotā, could please tell which Casper you have, is it all foam or a hybrid? What mattress did you have before your Casper and what are some qualities that you liked about it? Did you have time to browse the Trusted Member Directory for possible mattresses of interest? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and updates on your research.
