I have been looking at vispring mattresses and noticed they have single and double (and even triple) stacked coils. Since essentially all their mattresses are the same thickness I was wondering what the advantage would be to choosing a double stacked model that seems to be one coil cut in half and placed in 2 separate pockets over a single continuous coil. If anyone has looked into this I would appreciate some guidance. Thanks in advance.
Hey Mellowsauce,
Welcome to the Mattress Underground ! Thanks for your question.
Vispring, one of the oldest bespoke mattress manufacturers, is the inventor of the pocket spring coil and produces their own Vanadium steel coils for their mattresses and divans. According to their product brochure, they offer a choice of 9 wire gauges, 74 distinct spring types and can tailor spring tension to a specific user’s request. Each Vanadium steel coil is wrapped in a natural cotton calico pocket and then hand-sewn into a honeycomb pattern, allowing the individual springs to compress and expand in line with a body’s weight. With their proprietary design of a single, double or triple layer of these pocket coils as part of the comfort layer materials, choosing the number of coil layers is a matter of personal comfort preference and not necessarily one of performance or durability. Have you visited a showroom and tried their models and if so, what differences in the mattress “feel” did you notice between having one, two or three coil layers? What others are you considering? Good luck with your new mattress shopping journey and let us know how things go .

Thanks for responding. I have been to a couple of show rooms and right now I am trying to decide between the Tiara and the Regent Unfortunately my budget can’t allow me to even consider the higher up beds, (unless I want to place the mattress on the floor, ha.) I have tried the Tiara and like it enough to buy it. The problem is that I haven’t tried the Regent as no place local actually has one on the floor. Maybe foolishly I am debating whether or not to buy the Regent sight unseen and go for the higher single stack coil count vs the Tiara that has less coils in each stack but more overall. Is it better to go for the top of the line in the classic collection or the bottom of the line in the luxe collection?
Hey Mellowsauce,
Thanks for your reply .
Ultimately, the choice of either the Tiara or the Regent should be based on which mattress would provide the better comfort and support for your personal preferences. I’ve attached a 2021 Vispring product brochure downloaded from their site, pgs 64-67 offer cutaway views and content descriptions for all current models including the Classic Collection/ Regent and Luxe Collection/ Tiara Superb. While the brochure cannot replace a product demo, it can offer insights between the construction/ component differences of the two mattresses and perhaps help with other questions you may have for the retailers when trying to decide. As with any bespoke mattress purchase, be sure you have a clear understanding of the special care their natural materials and other components require for warding off potential compression issues over time and maintaining correct support. You’re doing a good job with your research, Mellowsauce; keep up the good work and keep us posted on which way you decide to go .
Thanks,
