Thanks in advance
Hi Aleykat,
The first thing I would suggest is to read post #1 here which has the basic information, steps, and guidelines you will need to make the best possible choices.
As you will read … a mattress is only as good as its construction and the quality of the materials inside it and unfortunately Kingsdown is one of the manufacturers that generally don’t disclose this. If the retailer is able to provide you with the specific details of all the layers in the mattress I’d be happy to share my thoughts about it but without this information you are making a completely blind purchase with no way to know the quality or durability of the mattress or if there are any weak links in the mattress that will soften or break down too quickly and there is no way to make meaningful value comparisons with other similar mattresses.
This is the type of situation I would tend to avoid when you are shopping for a mattress and unless the information you need to make an informed decision is available I would continue looking elsewhere.

The Vivarri is a ‘latex mattress’. There is 11" of blended (30% Natural, 70% Synthetic) Talalay from LI used in the build although the mattress is 15" thick.
From top to bottom:
Microfibre (polyester) cover, quilted to polyester fibre.
2" Polyurethane foam, unknown density
2" Talalay Latex unknown ILD
3" Talalay Latex unknown ILD
6" Talalay Latex unknown ILD
2" Polyurethane foam, unknown density.
The perimeter of the mattress is encased in polyurethane foam.
Realistically the mattress is pretty good quality however the value based on asking price is not particularly great. Their is enough polyfoam that you lose most of the benefits of the latex in terms of temperature regulation and hypoallergenic properties. Granted I do not know what price you were offered
Hi budgy,
Thanks for posting the specs of the Vivarri
Not surprisingly … my thoughts about it would very much reflect your own and I would also be somewhat concerned with the quality/density of the top polyfoam layer and the synthetic fiber in the quilting in terms of its potential for softening and impressions over time and the loss of comfort and support that can go with it. I also share your thoughts about its “value”.
At least with the specs you provided it’s possible to make more meaningful comparisons with other “mostly latex” mattresses.
Thanks again.
