I just registered to post today, but have been reviewing this site for about 3 years. I ended up buying a Telluride Plush (didn’t care for latex or memory foam mattresses for me) from Denver Mattress. I tried to find as many independent manufacturers in/around Cincinnati as I could find, but there weren’t many. I’m very happy with the bed thus far.
I ordered an adjustable base, and was supposed to receive an Ergomotion 100 but was delivered a Renew Keystone Grey base (not the Plus version). The Renew doesn’t list as having a Wall Saver or Hugger design, but the Ergomotion specs indicate they do. However, what I’m finding out is that maybe Wall Saver and Hugger designs are not interchangeable. After receiving the Renew with NO “wall” specs (moving so far away from the nightstand is a no-go for me), I was told the Ergomotion 100 does have the wall saver design, but it really doesn’t hug the wall as much as possibly a Serta Motion Perfect II base. I have yet to compare and see it (and the few videos I’m seeing online don’t show the Motion Perfect movement, although the videos say it stays close to the nightstand.) I’m thinking that maybe some adjustables that say “wall hugger” or “wall saver” may differ in their mechanism, or are totally different in the the definition. I’m not sure, but if any one has any information, please do tell.
However, I do see a video on the Symphony base which actually shows you a hugger design vs a non-hugger design. What I see in this video is exactly what I’m looking for: the base slides closer to the headboard as the head lifts. I’m not sure that specs that indicate “wall saver” have the same mechanism. I see where the Ergomotion 100 “wall saver” design indicate that your nightstand stays close to you when the head is raised, but according to Denver Mattress, it doesn’t do a great job at it.
I’m going to have to go back to them or another store that has more adjustable bases to test, so I can make sure I’m actually getting the “slide” action. The point of my post is two-fold: 1) I saw a post saying that the Ergomotion 400 is the same as the Serta Motion Perfect, but without the Serta extras. I’m not sure that’s the case if the “wall saver/hugging” mechanism is different, so do ensure you check; and 2) does anyone have any solid information on the “wall hugger/saver” definitions, or specifically have the Serta Motion Perfect II base who can confirm whether it works as the Symphony video?
Thank you so much Phoenix for this site, especially the posts I saw about salesman not liking when you ask for specs. I got the “only engineers ask those questions” and got laughed at a few times because of my supposedly unneeded questioning. I felt bad a couple times, but after seeing the standard reactions from salespeople (ladies too), I felt more confident that they were being defensive. Especially one young guy who laughed at me, assured me there were no dead people in the bed, insisted that I was asking to look at the layers of a full foam bed and proceeded to take off the outside covering, even when I told him that was entirely not what I was asking. I told him he was inappropriate and left the store promptly. He called out to me in a sickening sweet voice as I was walking out the inner doors to have a “wonderful afternoon”.
Luckily, it has been a pleasure working with Denver Mattress in Florence, Kentucky, where I received no judgment and ALL my questions were answered. They did have to call me back with specs a couple times, but not once did they make me feel bad. Also, Bowles Mattress in Lexington were super nice and knowledgeable on the phone, although their specs weren’t as good as Denver Mattress. They even gave me more tips what to look for on “zoned coils”.
(I tried to Preview this message – but it didn’t seem to work, so I apologize if something is amiss.)
