I just sent back a mattress that didn’t work out for us, and the whole thing made me sick. I’ve vowed not to but another mattress that I can trial in a showroom/store first so I can be fairly certain it’s comfortable before I agree to a trial.
What happens to all these mattresses? I’ve seen reports of people trying upwards of 10 mattresses.

Hey macdebbie!
It depends on the brand/retailer. Some donate returns to local charities. Others recycle them (sometimes into other types of furniture!) and others have agreements with re-sale companies where it’s all transparent that you’re buying a “second hand” mattress.
And, despite the efforts of donation and recycling programs, many returned mattresses end up in landfills. But, companies are going out of their way to prevent this option where possible.
What was the mattress that didn’t work out?
