So after finally convincing my husband that we needed a new bed after 10 years - He finally agreed. We bought a Dreamcloud Premier Hybrid mattress. When we each sleep separately on our respective sides it is all good. No problems. However when we gravitate to the middle to hug or cuddle the mattress sinks about 3-4 inches is seem like. When trying to get out of the middle I feel like we have to climb out of the bed. Our combined weight is about 400 lbs. So I don’t think the mattress has any problem with just one of us but when combined it just doesnt’ hold up.
What kind of mattress would hold up in the middle? I have tried to search the forum but I can’t seem to find anything. From what I have read a good latex mattress maybe able to help but I am not so sure. Any suggestions on what type of mattress to look for would be great.
Before assuming the mattress is the issue, confirm it’s the source of the problem. Often, the discomfort you’re describing stems from the frame, foundation (box spring), or both. To test, place the mattress on the floor and cuddle in the middle. If the issue persists, it’s likely the mattress. If it improves, the frame or foundation may be the culprit. Many frames and foundations, even at higher price points, lack proper center support, leading customers to mistakenly replace mattresses. We hope this helps.
Great suggestion! But we have no box spring for the mattress. It is basically a platform bed and the mattress sits on the platform. I forgot to mention it is a king.
I guess my question is we’ve had spring coil mattresses(old) that this was never an issue. We usually had firm mattresses. Now that we’ve gone to this hybrid version it seems like the middle is an issue. It came folded and then rolled up. I don’t know if that affected the integrity of the middle of the mattress or not. Or if it is defective in some way.
I do not think this is a latex mattress so I am wondering if a latex mattress would perform better. I can still return the mattress but hate to do that.
While some claim roll-packing doesn’t harm mattresses, evidence suggests it can reduce longevity and support. Non-roll-packed mattresses tend to last longer and provide better support. Additionally, innerspring core mattresses offer superior support compared to foam core mattresses. To rule out issues with your bed frame, try this: one person lies near the edge of the bed while the other observes the platform supports from the floor. As the person on the bed rolls to the middle, check if the supports move or remain stable. This ensures the bed frame isn’t the problem, so you’re not addressing the wrong issue.
