Hi I’ve had my mattress for about three months now no brand, got it from divan beds direct, its hand made, tufted etc, but it’s just too hard I have got two bad shoulders at the minute, and I’m feeling it on my hips as well with this mattress, I recently reached out to (John Ryan by design) and one of there advisors gave me a little advice, she told me to get a topper and try and soften the Mattress too take some pressure off.
I replyed back to her, and asked would I not be better getting a memory foam topper, she said no because my mattress is natural fibres she recommends sticking with a natural topper for breathability, but does it really matter what I put on top, I just want to take the pressure off my shoulders and hips, and I’ve read that the hollow fibre ones are good for a couple of months then just thin out, on saying that though it is hard to get a decent foam topper these days as well, eg lots have chemical smells, and all in all the quality is just not there, really can’t decide, any advice appreciated.
I would suggest you look into a 2-3" talalay latex topper. Most likely 3" for the most pressure relief. Depending on your height, weight, and preferred sleeping positions either soft or medium should help you a lot and latex will last you a long time without having to worry about any toxic chemical smells. Can’t comment on hollow fibre, I don’t know anything about it. Maybe someone else here does.
It looks like your in the UK though. I wouldn’t know where to direct you to there on a talalay topper. Hopefully someone else here that is more knowledgable than I am will be able to help you more.

Hi Thanks for replying, I only weigh around 11/1/2 stone, and I’m 5 foot seven, someone else on another forum mentioned talalay, they said they had to ship it over to the UK, cost £300, so I think soft maybe, quite expensive if I’d doesn’t suit me lol.
Yeah you would want to go with soft. I know even over here in the states it’s not cheap. But in terms of contouring to your body and providing pressure relief and comfort, talalay latex is one of the best things you can get. It would be better if you could find it locally in the UK somewhere so it wouldn’t have to be shipped so far. I searched and found a place in the UK that sells it that you might wanna look into and research. https://www.latexsense.co.uk/ultimate-talalay-latex-topper/p402I You would probably wanna go with the 8cm topper. I noticed that they offer a 30-day trial on their toppers.
I hope you find something that works out for you. There’s nothing worse than having too firm of a bed with shoulder and hip problems. I know that all too well myself right now lol I’m in the process of buying an all latex mattress.
Previous link I posted didn’t turn out right and it wouldn’t allow me to edit my post for some reason. The link above will take you directly to the talalay topper on their site.
Thanks much appreciated I’ll look at the website, good they’ve got a trial, I’ve got the soft as down topper coming tomorrow, just ordered it to give it a try, but not hoping for much, but might take the edge of a little, if it doesn’t do, then I’ve always got an expensive duvet lol, I know it will sink into the craters created by the buttons and the tufts, I really don’t like the craters, and they’re quite deep, and you can’t avoid them unless you lie like a statue.
I would probably encounter the same problem with the talalay topper as well though, it will sink down into the crators, I’m calling them crators lol cause that’s what they remind me of, so I might need to get a new mattress if it doesn’t improve, (John Ryan ) does a white talalay mattress over here, but it states medium to firm, and you would need to be over 14 stone for it to be classed as soft, someone on another forum suggested cutting the buttons off, they said they did it to their mattress, and it flattened it right out, but I don’t think that would be a good move, lol, Thanks.
