I’ve only seen thus far, FloBeds offer a convoluted latex topper. Everyone else seems to only have the regular flat latex topper.
I’m in Canada, concerned about shipping/returns (which probably aren’t even allowed with just a topper).
Trying to find solutions to the latex core, layers I recently purchased. So far, I hate the feel of latex. I feel like I"m sleeping on a sponge. Its bouncy with no give and I’m in pain all the time. Too late to return it. So. maybe a convoluted latex will feel ok.
I’ve tried memory foam convoluted toppers and while I like the way they feel, they don’t last longer than a couple of weeks and begin to permanently sink in. yes, rotating and all, and eventually the whole thing is squashed.
I’m quite miserable with lack of sleep, waking in pain, at this point, going on the last few years with crap mattress, sunk loads of $$ into latex which is no better for my body.
fyi - 5’2", 125 lbs, petite, history of upper back injury, frozen shoulder.
I my sorry you’re having such a rough time with finding something that works so I’d like to be able to help but I can only provide suggestions. I’m pretty sure the issue is current setup is way too stiff for someone your weight (BMI) and you may have travel issues on top of it (so I suggest all talalay in this case). My wife weighs roughly the same as you and finds she can’t wait to get home to sleep in her bed (very similar configuration to what I suggest for you below). Being in Canada you are going to have problems buying and returning layers (I’ve been down that road already, just part of living in Canada). So try to focus on just choosing well and if you make a mistake don’t fret about it remember the ultimate goal is a good restful night’s sleep (latex mattresses last a very long time once you dial them in).
Right now you have a 19T/19D/30D/36T and I have no idea on your particular body shape but based on your weight I would suggest something more like this.
Flobed CT (2")
19T (2") (ideally I would use 22T here but try what you have already)
28T (3")
32T (3")
Then if you find you need more alignment adjustments (due to body shape or injuries) you can add the Flobeds Vzone layer above the 28T support layer (my wife does have this as well). Don’t worry about a cover until after you find the right configuration that works best for you, just a loose mattress pad and a fitted sheet is fine for testing.
I was wondering about FloBeds VZone components to add/replace what I have instead of first buying the 28 and 32 support layers you suggested below. At least starting there instead of the other way around. I want to try to keep as much of what I already have as possible so as not to spend more than necessary.
However, the FloBeds VZone components will run over $800 USD. I’m not sure if those components are for one side of the bed. I have a Queen and really should have thought about down sizing before all this. And I’m not sure about returns if those components dont work for me. So, yes like you said, buying/returns are a real pain up here.
Do you know where else one can buy a convoluted latex topper? Quite expensive from FloBeds for a Queen. $469 USD. I don’t understand why they are so expensive, more than regular flat latex toppers, but maybe the way they are made. Anyhoo, I really do like the idea of FloBeds and what they offer, I’m just leary of sinking a whole bunch more money in and can’t return/exchange.
I could see if the manufacturer I purchased from locally can give me some kind of deal with a 32 and or 28T since its past the 100 day return mark. They were great initially but post-sale, not so willing to be helpful in working with me to find the most comfortable configuration. Disappointing. I find mattress shopping a little like buying a car, especially for a single female. Its no fun.
My build is petite, small frame. I don’t have broad shoulders or wide hips. Trunk area carries the most weight. I’m 53 and not that athletic. Old upper back injury (fracture to T7,8,9), neck, and recently frozen shoulder. So alignment and pressure are considerations.
One of the major lessons I learned along the way was if something isn’t working for me, move on no matter the money I spent on it. It’s too easy to go down a rabbit hole of bad decisions based on trying to reuse stuff that isn’t working well for you. I have a ton of SOL layers I bought early on because they were cheap and I didn’t know better.
The Vzone layer is going to run you $1000 USD for both sides of a queen. So you want to be sure you really need it (like I did) before taking the plunge. So that’s why I really suggest going with the setup I first suggested and then add the Vzone later if you really need just a little more alignment help to make things perfect.
The convoluted topper is really something unique and special in the market right now. It’s actually manufactured not molded like you’d expect so I imagine it must take quite a while to hog out all that material (hence the cost). It also has a very unique feel (really gives you that sleeping on a cloud feel on top when combined with another 2" comfort layer underneath). Make sure the points face upward if you install it in your mattress.
Obviously you’re welcome to try whatever you think works but I would strongly suggest at least getting those two 3" talalay layers 28T and 32T) at a bare minimum. If you do go back to the place that sold you the first mattress make absolutely sure you’re buying talalay latex and not dunlop or you’ll likely end up wasting more money (I usually get my talalay from APM). I also believe you will really enjoy the Flobeds topper if you have the budget to do it at the same time. I usually buy stuff and have it shipped to a US mailbox and go down to pick it up because it’s way cheaper shipping (not sure if this is an option for you or not).
I decided to start out with the Flobeds convoluted topper. Not helping at all. Very expensive and I can’t return it.
I’ve decided that I just don’t like the feel of latex. It can be both too hard and too soft at the same time, too bouncy when its on the softer side, pain either way. So I’m not even going to go down the road of the VZones. Too much of a hassle to have them ship to Canada, etc. I’m giving up on all latex mattress and will sell off what I can and start over with possibly a hybrid of some kind. Idk.
