Felt a strange hard spot on the mattress, took the cover off and cut away the thin protective layer to find what looks like clumps of white play dough consistency balls, no odors. Doesn’t look like any stains that could be mold. What could it be? And do I need to just toss the mattress? Could it be the gel from the mattress ruptured and dried?

If I had to take a guess it is one of 3 things. 1. Bits of memory foam that has degraded. 2. The glue they use to adhere layers together rolling into little spit balls. If it has a bad smell, it could be mold, but usually would not be that color.
Unless someone else has a better idea?
