So I’ve ordered a wood frame bed (king) and I’m realizing I need a foundation. I’m not able to go back to the store but I called and they said that I’d probably need a foundation (I assume this means there’s too much space between slats).
Do I really need a foundation or can I just go get some matching boards to create my own slats to fill in the gaps?
The question is not that easily answered without further details. What mattress is being used. What is the weight of each sleeper. What foundation is currently being used. How wide, thick and spaced are the slats now.
One answer is if you were to look at mattressfoundations.com Terra foundation, this is one that is sturdy and robust enough to support virtually any mattress and pair of sleepers that would sleep on it. So you can use it as a benchmark of how you might want a foundation to be built. Big Fig has a nice foundation that would do a fine job.
Just as one should take every action and ask pertinent questions when selecting a mattress, the foundation is vital to ensure it all works together. It is not something you want to skimp on.
