wool latex pillowtop

I have an Euro Flex bed firm mattress and purchasing a wool latex pillow top. Originally years back i got soft but I’m wondering if i should do medium firmness pillow top since I’m older. Hmmm. Any suggestions, i do however sleep on both side or back.

Hi Swissmissms,

Welcome to the Forum!

Knowing the stats of the wool latex pillowtop you are purchasing is most helpful. How thick is it? What are the specs of a “soft” or “medium”? Are you planning to put the topper on your current mattress? Let me know if your purpose to soften up this mattress and if your current mattress is in good condition and not dipping,

Next, I would consider a couple personal things when determining a soft or medium pillow top: height/weight, sleeping preference, and if you have any pain when you sleep (back pain, pressure points etc.)

Typically when someone is a side sleeper, choosing more plush of a material is preferred to allow more comfort and pressure relief for your shoulders and hips. If you have back pain, choosing firmer can be better for support. If you have pressure points then softer will offer more comfort.

If you are able to provide some of the product info, personal info, and answers to my questions above, I can better assist with your purchase decision. If you have further questions, please let me know. Thank you!

My current latex mattress is firm, 14 yrs old, no dipping. I’m not wanting to soften it with topper but I guess it currently was soft 14 yrs back. It’s 2" soft latex with 1" wool. Not realizing I wasn’t suppose too, I would flip topper over I’m guessing cuz maybe wanted more support or maybe was habit, don’t know. I am now 58, 5’6", 155 lbs. My lower back hurts at times maybe from alittle scoliosis. Sometimes neck hurts as well. I’m using both latex & also down pillow but I’m good their. I guess my concern is what I really like and what is best for me are 2 different issues. I did try soft latex wool topper in store. Euroflex where I got my original bed is still in existence, yay!!! The medium with wool topper seemed firmer but I’m wondering if in the long run better for my back especially as we get older maybe our needs are different. I do sleep on side but watch alot of tv in bedroom, therefore usually on my back. Hopefully this helps your ?'s.

Hi Swissmissms,

Thank you for your reply and the information provided!

From my knowledge of customers with back pain or scoliosis, firmer is better for support. Medium Talalay is still a very plush material, and you could always make it softer with some kind of down comforter mattress pad if later you begin to have more aches and pains. Sometimes just a ½-1 inch of plushness can make a big difference for people with pressure points or pain.

Hope that helps! Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thx, ill do medium firmness. So need your views. I have option of it being done in same material 14 yrs back when i originally bought mine. It’s cotton & rayon, woven tightly or i can have it done in 100% organic cotton which is more stretchy, gives more and makes the topper more plush. So not sure which fabric is best

Hi Swissmissms,

If having the organic certification is important to you, you should choose to go with that one, otherwise both are good choices. Based on the previous information you provided, maybe the one that is a little more plush would give you the right about of comfort you are looking for

Hope that helps! Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Just found out, the Maker of my mattress 14 yrs ago had soft topper 16, Med 19. Their soft now is considered 19 with the outer organic stretch fabric. Ive chosen to do my original quilted fabric for topper and I’m going to sleep just on my latex 6" mattress 36 and see how i feel. That should help me decide if ill go with 19 or 22.

Sounds great! Happy you were able to make a well thought out decision
