I have a zinus 10inch gel infused mattress. I have it on the floor, I have read that it’s okay to have the floor as its foundation, I hope I am not wrong though, is my first question actually. Secondly, my baby and I share a small room and I was wanting to put the mattress against the wall (not at an angle just long side straight against wall) with my son’s crib up against it. I’m wanting to do this just during the day to make more space in my room. I really hope it’s okay to do that as it would save a lot of room. Lastly, I will be moving into a bigger place where I won’t have to do this, within 3 months to 5 months at most. So, just needing to know if using the floor is okay for now and also putting the mattress straight against the wall during the day, is okay. Thanks so much for your time!
Hi angelove,
Welcome to the Mattress Forum!
A solid surface like the floor is perfectly acceptable to be used under your mattress. The larger concern would be the potential for increases chances of mold or mildew in a mattress in this situation, as there can be a lack of airflow on the underside of your mattress. A bedroom in a basement would be more likely to have issues than one on the third floor. Using air conditioning would help avoiding this potential issue. For those that have a solid surface support system under their mattress then something like a this bed rug in between the mattress and the foundation or one of the slat conversions here (which has no flex at all) or even one of the Ikea slatted bed bases here (which has some flex which may change how the mattress feels and performs) could work well and would also increase ventilation under their mattress.
I’m assuming that you mean instead of having the mattress flat upon the floor, it would be flat against the wall lengthwise (as opposed to standing the mattress up in its end). With the crib against the mattress, to prevent it from sagging, this should be fine for the time period you described, as all of the foam layers within your mattress should be laminated together to keep them in place.
