Backstory: I have posted to TMU quite a few times. In short, we originally bought a tufy and needle (original verision) and I loved how firm it was. I have low back pain and need a firm mattress. My wife, however, complained of it hurting her shoulder and I would wake up frequently with numb arms. We replaced it with a brooklynn bedding dreamfoam and it ended up not lasting past two years.
Now, we are interested in a mattress that is firm around the hips to support them along with our low backs but want something soft around our shoulders to prevent numbness and hurting shoulders. What would you recommend that I research? I looked at Level Sleep, but the photo on their website shows that the softness for the bottom part of the mattress is over the hips, and I cannot deal with softness there. Thank you for your time and thoughts!
Welcome back to TMU and thanks for your question !
I’m sorry to hear that you both had pressure point issues with your T&N Original, as well as durability problems with your BB Dreamfoam, calentarse. It sounds as though you both have endured a good deal of discomfort and frustration. Perhaps TMU can help you sort through choices and find a better nights’ sleep soon.
Congrats on your new mattress shopping adventure ! What size mattress are you interested in and what is your budget? As both of the mattresses you’ve had were memory foamor similar, is it safe to say that you prefer memory foam/ all foam mattresses? If that is the case, make those types your focus and begin your research using that category only. You may also ask questions regarding a possible mattress recommendation from one of our TMU trusted members, these fine ones offer memory foam products:
I reviewed Level Sleep’s site and checked out the video showcasing their TriSupport design. As you mentioned, its firm zoning is in the lower back/ torso area, with a medium firmness in the hip area. From the video details, their firm focus is on lower back and torso support and their marketing is pointed towards that customer. If you’re looking into mattresses with zoned support cores, opt for ones with the firmest zoning in the hips/ pelvic area for the support feel you prefer. Have you considered a split firmness setup? If you paired 2 twin XLs, you each could have individual comfort and support side by side with a king size sleep surface. When you have time, please review the trusted members’ offerings above and let us know what further questions you have. Good luck with your research and let us know how things go .
