I’m looking for an affordable platform bed for a 9" to 12" latex mattress. It needs to have 3" or less between the slats which has been very difficult to find. I would also prefer that it has a little bit of height for storage. My current normal bed frame is 7" high and I would like more. Also hoping to find one that doesn’t squeak when changing positions. I’m not having any luck finding anything and to be honest I’m tired of shopping. I would like to keep the price to around $250 or less.
If I can’t find anything I’ll probably make one myself. Lumber is pricey right now and it would cost over $150 for this simple easy to take apart bed. I even cut back the 2x4 slats to 1x4s to get the price down. It also doesn’t include screws or glue. I may also need to pick up a sander and paper.

This bed would be cool if I could find similar cabinets in my area. No Ikea’s in my state. It would also need to modified to stand alone since I live in an apt. I have a feeling this would make noise climbing up the cabinet stairs though. Using cabinets might make this cost more than a decent premade platform bed.

I really like these beds but they divide up the two sides with two lengthwise boards that have a 2.4" gap between them. If you sleep in the middle of the bed wouldn’t you feel the gap? I guess you could always add a board in the middle.
I can’t speak to the quality of the brands you shared since I am not familiar with them, but if they appear adequate for your latex mattress and budget, they may be worth the purchase! “Bowing” may occur on the mattress if the foundation doesn’t adequately support its weight or your weight, especially if there are two sleepers with very different BMIs or if the frame isn’'t properly put together.
If you look at our Trusted Members’ sites, you’ll see the recommended foundation for latex has boards all he way across, like this frame from AZ Premium (which appears to be in your budget).
The platform/space saving foundations are interesting. I definitely see the appeal, especially when one has less space than they might like. I wonder if you could create some sort of hybrid with the slatted base to allow for some air flow. All of the slatted wood foundations I’ve seen sit rather close to the floor and aren’t great for storage, but I imagine there is a way to elevate those bases or, as you previously mentioned, maybe making your own base so that it’s to your ideal specifications.
Looking through the Trusted Member websites may be useful for you as far as creating a plan for what you may ultimately choose to build (number of slats, slat width, etc.)
I am sorry I don’t have a fixed solution for you, but hopefully something I have said here can help set you in the right direction for your needs.

Is the foundation you linked to supposed to go on a bed frame in place of box springs? If so what if the frame only has a left right middle support and not a center support that goes from head to toe (like my frame)? Using it on the floor is not an option because I don’t like spiders lol.
Another place has similar beds to the one I looked at in oak and pine. They even sell queen loft beds which would have a ton of room for storage. They charge extra for shipping though and the plain pine platform would cost the same as the ones I linked to earlier. https://roomdoctor.com/
I’ve had a tough time finding a bed that meets all my criteria. I went ahead and ordered the Charleston that I linked to. The only thing I dislike is the fact that it’s only 1" lumber and it’s not finished. I even see a similar bed in one of the photos at diynaturalbedding.
The foundation I linked to stands alone (and comes with a cover that kind of makes it look like a box spring) but doesn’t need to be use in conjunction with anything else…aside from the mattress, of course.
Speaking of spiders…my grandparents used to have a huge room in their basement that was just mattresses/beds for the grandkids to sleep on when we all visited for family reunions (I have 57 cousins…many many kids!) and once I woke up to turn and find a huge banana spider on the pillow next to me, watching me sleep.
I agree that being further from the floor is the better option :side:
Overall, that appears to a be a solid option. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can put a finish on it as a fun project (haha). Hopefully it ends up being a good fit for your needs overall! Looking forward to any reports you may have once it’s assembled.
Glad to hear I’m not alone when it comes to disliking creepy spiders ha. Once I woke up with my cat sniffing at my face causing me to dream about a spider. She woke me up and I found a spider on my chest. My heart went from 0-100 in 1 second.
FWIW when shopping around today for what will hopefully be my final latex layer I found one of your trusted members who sells what looks like the same platform bed.
I will definitely report back in case anyone is looking for a budget option. It should be here midweek but I doubt I get it put together until the weekend.
