So glad to have found this forum. My husband and I really want to purchase the Saatva HD mattress in size king. However the 15.5” height is way too high for our bed frame. I’m wondering if you can suggest an alternative that isn’t as tall.
What we like about the HD: you feel stable, it’s not bouncy or springy. Our current mattress is a Comfort Pure, which we like but it’s getting to be close to 10’years old and we’re ready for something new.

Did you want the saatva HD because you are heavier sleepers? From what I’ve read it has a fairly firm surface. If those are the two things you also like then there’s the titan plus core mattress which is much less expensive.
I think more information would help with making a decision. Because there are beds with the characteristics you’ve listed that aren’t made specifically for heavy sleepers, but the saatva HD is made specifically for heavier sleepers.
Hi. No, we are not heavy sleepers. What we like about the Saatva is that it feels firm but cushy at the same time. And little motion transfer. We tried the Saatva Classic but felt we dropped down too much.

Welcome to the Mattress UnderGround. We are happy to have you here and thanks for the question. I have tested every one of the Saatva Mattresses at one time or another and the HD was the one that felt exactly as you described it. Stable, not bouncy (most all of the other Saatva’s were too bouncy or soft even in their firm versions) and stable. While the height of the Saatva did not bother me, I understand where you are coming from. Having said that I think there are alternatives out there that use better quality foams and are shorter and height to meet your preferences. Since you are not plus sized and like like a little cushion, but a firm stable mattress.
These are a few mattresses, of many, that offer that stable, supportive feel and the lack of bounce and springiness you did not like of the Saatva Classic, I think there are four alternatives worth looking at, especially if you need to stay below that 15.5" height:
Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Firm
Mattress Makers Cardiff Firm
DLX 12" Latex Luxe Firm
BackScience1 or 2
All four should be worth considering if the 15.5" height of the HD is the deal-breaker. They offer different constructions to get to a certain firm but cushy surface feel, but I think they make more sense for what you’re describing than simply moving to another Saatva model or even staying with the HD.
The @DLX 12" Latex Luxe Firm would be particularly interesting if you like a very supportive, stable latex feel. The DLX is offered in a 12 or 14" in either latex (the latexluxe) or HD foam (Premier Hybid) and both offer a durable, edge to edge spring support with a firm but forgiving cover panel when you roll to your side.
The @SDMattressMakers, The Cardiff Firm is another one I’d investigate if you want something substantial and supportive without going to the height of the HD. This is one I just tested myself this past week. It is definitely the sleeper in this group, pun intended. The Cardiff is quite firm, but the tufted cover panel has one of the most luxurious looking covers I have seen, it basically is calling you to test it when you look at it. More importantly it that firm stable feel, with the added no bounce cushion due to the layer of wool, plus layers of one inch of serene and viscoelastic foam each. This is one that was so comfortable, it is on my short list for my next mattress.
For the last 4 years we have been sleeping on the Brooklyn Bedding Plank Luxe, combined with a variety of toppers tested in combination. Currently we are using a 3" Talalay firm (36-38ILD) topper. I would have recommended the same combination of the plank luxe and topper, but it would have created a mattress that is too high.
@BackScience is another that would also be worth looking at, particularly if you have specific preferences around firmness and support. The BackScience 1 and 2 are mattresses that can accommodate most any sleeper preferences. The BackScience can be modified during the crafting process or after at home if certain modifications are needed.
The @BrooklynBedding ThermoBalance LX is a newer entry option this past year. It is a solidly built bed, you sleep on top with an nice stable feeling cover/panel while feeling very supportive. It has a similar vibe to the Saatva HD, with a combination of natural latex and synthetic CertiPur-US foams combined with edge to edge support coils for a longer lasting edge support design.
Not certain which Comfort Pure you currently have, but from what you describe about the Saatva HD, these should be some good alternatives. They all offer a medium-firm leaning firm feel, pressure relief, luxury firm but cushion surface feel, motion isolation, etc.
I would like to know a bit more about your Comfort Pure mattress and its construction to better assess the feel you have been sleeping on and what you like about it.

Based on the information so far, I agree that our 12" LatexLux in Firm would be a good option to consider.
It won’t be an exact match for the Saatva HD since different constructions are always going to have their own feel, but if you found the Saatva HD comfortable and liked that firm, stable feel with some cushioning, I think there’s a good chance you would find the LatexLux comfortable as well.
One advantage with the LatexLux is that the mattress has a zipper, so the 3" comfort layer can be changed if we miss the mark on firmness. If it ends up feeling too firm or too soft, we offer a one-time comfort adjustment at no cost within the first 120 days.
