I’m hoping I haven’t made a mistake that I need to try to walk back. Today my wife and I went shopping and found an American Bedding brand mattress that we were immediately comfortable on. It’s not like me to just say “we’ll take this one” without further research, but that’s what we did. (Interestingly, we went to this place because they were a mattress manufacturer and built a lot of their own mattresses in house. American Bedding was the only brand they offered that wasn’t made in house and it’s the one we liked best in their store).
Coming home and trying to research this company after the fact I found that there is very little actual detail available on their company web site. I did find out that they have been owned by Corsicana for about a decade which gives me pause as Corsicana branded beds and their customer support seems to have very poor reviews overall.
The bed we chose was a pocketed coil euro-top plush king size bed at a price of $1200 + tax. The thing is, that’s about 1/4 of the budget that I would be comfortable spending on an outstanding bed. So, with a budget of up to about $5k, I’m wondering if I am throwing away money buying a $1200 mattress and wondering if I will be unhappy with it in a relatively short period of time. I don’t expect a mattress to last forever, but I’d like this to be a once a decade shopping task, not once every 3 years.
I’m not sure I’m having buyer’s remorse or not. I’m simply concerned that with a $5k budget I could have done a lot better – or maybe just gotten ripped off to the tune of over $3k more for a mattress with a story, as the guides on here put it.

I’m very unimpressed with their web site and the available information. I’m even more unimpressed with the Corsicana reviews I have found online.
The specific bed I purchased appears to be this one:
