Hi, I just got my latex mattress and suspension slatted foundation box. Wondering if i should have some sort of a frame to put the box and mattress on? Is it necessary? Does it have any effect on anything? The obvious one i can think of is height (seems kinda low right now) but i wonder if a frame is necessary for better air flow and how important that air flow is.
Also would a rudimentary steel frame on wheels (no headboard nothing flashy–~$80-90) be good enough and not compromise the durability of the slat foundation box/mattress?
Is it common to have no bed frame and are there repercussions for not having one?
Thanks!
Hi Stmslpr,
Congratulations on receiving your new mattress and foundation! You are correct in that the only real benefit to placing the foundation on a metal bed frame would be for added height. We have many customers that place their foundations right on the floor if they prefer a lower profile look and have no problems with air flow due to the open slats in the foundation and the inherent breathability of the latex. Should you choose to use a metal bed frame for the height, any that you can purchase at most furniture stores or online are going to work great! Just make sure that in a king size you have at least two center supports and queen size at least one center support.
Thank you and let us know if you have any other questions!
Sleep EZ
Thanks so much for all the help during my purchasing adventure! I can sleep easy now knowing i’m not screwing up the foundation/mattress as it sits on the floor while i decide on what kind of frame to get. I think i might want a bit of that extra height.
Will keep you posted on what i think of the new latex bed as i sleep on it for a while.
cheers!
