Brooklyn Bedding BME Alternatives?

Ordered a kings size medium firmness Brooklyn Bedding BME a week ago. I personally like it for back sleeping and the jury is still out for slide sleeping. My wife on the other hand has not liked it from day one. I must not have done a good job explaining the difference between the a latex mattress and a true memory foam ( or maybe did not truly understand the difference in feel myself). She keeps comparing it to memory foam (Tempurpedic mattress and memory foam toppers) she has used in the past and wants that sinking, contouring feeling you get with memory foam.

Are there any good recommendations for mattresses with a more of a true memory foam feel in the BME price point/quality? Would be willing to pay a little more if necessary. I felt like the BME was a great selection based on price/value so if it doesn’t work out would hope to find a similar situation in more of the true memory foam category.

It seems like some of the memory foam mattresses are not recommended for individuals weighing more than 200lbs, which we are both well below that so shouldn’t be a concern. I am a back sleeper moving to my side at some point in the night and my wife is predominately a side sleeper.

Hi atp0726,

Welcome to the Mattress Forum!

The BME doesn’t use latex, but instead a very buoyant high-density polyfoam they call TitanFlex in the upper 4" of their mattress. This foam would not have the “feel” of memory foam. Memory foam certainly is the opposite of buoyant, having low resilience and high hysteresis – a much more “dead” feel.

There are thousands of “memory foam” style mattresses available online and at retail locations. If you’re shopping online, there are site members listed in post #21 here who are all very experienced and knowledgeable and specialize in providing the type of help and guidance on the phone that can help you make good choices, and many of them have memory foam options included in the choices there and I believe that all of them compete well with the best in the industry in terms of their quality, value, service, and transparency. Among them are:

Memory Foam Comfort
purecraftedbeds.com
Nest Bedding
Quality Sleep Shop
Sedona Sleep
Sleep EZ Factory
Texas Mattress Makers

No, that’s not necessarily the case. You’d just want to be sure that the memory foam was a higher density (5lb), and that the memory foam layers were not too thick, and that the support structure and other foams were appropriate for higher BMI individuals (see post #3 here). I know this is not the case for you, however.

Make sure that whatever you choose, you follow the guidelines set out for durability in the mattress shopping tutorial.
