I bought a new medium level Sterns and Foster Lux Hybrid mattress a year ago and it is sagging. I have pain in all of my joints from this. I found out that the bed frame is bad. I was going to get a bunkie board but now I’m worried that the mattress might be ruined as well as the box springs. I need some advice please.

This is an unfortunate situation that we see fairly often with many of the larger legacy mattress brands. Before assuming the mattress is ruined, the first step is to determine whether the sagging is being caused by the mattress itself or by the support system underneath it. Understanding you seem certain the frame is bad, which is often the case, it could be a combination of both a bad frame and an inadequate mattress.
The easiest way to do check if the mattress can recover is to place the mattress directly on the floor for several nights. If the mattress feels noticeably firmer and more supportive, then the weak bed frame and/or foundation may have been the primary issue and there may be some hope for the mattress.
Hopefully, you have been rotating the mattress regularly. If not, now would be a good time to start. When a foundation or frame lacks adequate support, the mattress tends to sag where the body weight is greatest and the support is weakest. Over time, this can affect both the mattress and the foundation.
If the mattress still shows significant sagging or causes discomfort after being placed on a solid surface, there is a good chance that some permanent wear damage has occurred. Testing it on the floor before purchasing a bunkie board or replacement foundation will help you determine the next best step. Hopefully, your mattress can recover from this situation. Try the floor first and follow up with the results.
