I have seen numerous posts on the internet about quilted covers affecting the softness of a latex mattress, and recommending going with a different cover that isn’t as thick if the quilted cover feels too firm. If I were to buy a SleepEZ Organic Mattress and wasn’t happy with the cover, would using a different cover such as the Sleep Like a Bear Knitted Bamboo cover affect the warranty at all?
Hello chupippomink and welcome to the forums and thanks for the inquiry! No that would not affect your warranty or return policy as long as the cover is returned with the mattress.
Regarding the cover, though - Yes, the wool in the cover makes the mattress feel firmer than if that wool weren’t there, but of course we’ve accounted for that in choosing the firmness of the materials in the rest of the mattress. Also, please keep in mind that the mattress can be customized to be as soft or as firm as you’d like, so the wool in the cover really shouldn’t be an issue. Additionally, that’s been our default cover for decades and we ship around 20 mattresses per day and we still only have a 4% return rate, while the industry average for mattress returns is 15-20% and some companies are as high as 35-40%. So you might say 96% of our customers feel like the cotton & wool cover works just fine!
Thanks for the quick reply! I appreciate it.
That is good to hear. I am just trying to cover my bases as I research these options. I am leaning heavily towards the SleepEZ Organic Mattress in a split king as my wife and I have very different preferences/bodies.
The recommended configuration seemed to push my body type towards a very firm mattress, but I have always enjoyed a more plush bed. Would you by chance have any recommendations? I’ve never purchased a new bed, always had hand me down’s, so I’m not absolutely positive what I like. Our last pillowtop mattress we were given by family members I liked, but my wife hated it.
Me - 5’ 9" 340lbs but losing weight slowly. Primarily a side sleeper. Wants support but enjoys a more plush feeling bed. Firm bed’s in lower end hotels cause me to wake up with a lot of lower back pain.
Wife - 5’ 5" 190 lbs, also losing weight. Usually starts the night on her side by ends up on stomach. Prefers a pretty firm bed.
In your experience, how often as peoples bodies change do they feel the need to maybe switch up some layers? Being able to change parts of a latex bed without fully buying a new mattress is a major plus in my mind.
Lastly, what is the warranty on your adjustable bed frame? My wife reads a lot in bed and having a mattress and frame to support sitting up seems awesome.
Thanks for your time!
When you say split king, do you mean a king with split layers inside of one king sized cover, or are you getting 2 twin XL mattresses to put side by side?
If you’re getting split layers in one king cover, I would do OK on the 13" organic latex mattress with medium Talalay over medium Dunlop over firm Dunlop over extra firm Dunlop and she would probably do OK on medium Talalay over firm Dunlop over extra firm Dunlop over extra firm Dunlop. The top Talalay layer should provide all the contour and pressure relief needed to avoid any pressure point issues and will add secondary support to the mattress. Secondary support is needed to fill in the gaps between your body and the mattress – back sleepers normally need secondary support to fill in the gaps between the small of their back and the mattress; side sleepers normally need secondary support to fill in the gaps between their mid-section and the mattress, and stomach sleepers normally need this under their belly or in their upper shoulder / clavicle area. If these parts of a person’s body aren’t supported by the mattress, their muscles will work throughout the night to hold these parts of the body up, and by the time they wake up they’ve got back pain. So the top 3” of Talalay latex will provide contour, pressure relief, and secondary support. The remaining Dunlop layers should provide all the support needed to maintain proper spinal alignment and avoid back pain. Please keep in mind that our initial recommendations have a 90% success rate (we only have a 10% layer exchange rate and a 3%-4% return rate) so there’s a 90% chance that the above recommendation works perfectly for you.
I don’t have a number on how often people come back to purchase layers from us, sorry about that!
The manufacturer covers the adjustable base warranty, and the warranty details are as follows:
2-Year Hassle Free Warranty
Your adjustable base is warranted by the manufacturer against defects in materials or workmanship for a period of two years from the date of purchase to the original Purchaser. During such time, the manufacturer will repair or replace, at no cost to the original Purchaser, any warranted part(s)* found to be defective by the manufacturer, in its sole discretion. This includes all pre-authorized labor and transportation costs incurred with the repair or replacement of any part found to be defective.
5-Year Warranty on Parts
During year 3 through 5 from the original purchase date, the manufacturer will replace any part on the adjustable base found to be defective by the manfacturer, to the original Purchaser. The manufacturer’s liability is limited to the replacement of the defective electrical/mechanical part(s)* ONLY with the Purchaser responsible for all service, installation, and transportation cost of said part(s).
10-Year Limited Warranty
Notwithstanding the above, the manufacturer extends a 10-year warranty on mechanical base parts found to be defective on a limited basis as defined herein. Specifically, the manufacturer warrants that for a full 10 years from the commencement date of this warranty, any defect in the workmanship or the materials used shall be covered. For purposes of this 10-year warranty, it specifically excludes the cover, shroud, platform, legs, actuator lift motors, massage motors, control box, remote controls, power supply, and all power supply cords. The purchaser shall pay 1/5 of the current MSRP of the replacement part, or the entire adjustable base if deemed irreparable at the sole discretion of the manufacturer, multiplied by the number of years after the fifth year from the original purchase date. The manufacturer’s liability shall be limited to the replacement of the defective part(s) ONLY with the purchaser responsible for all service, installation and freight costs for said part.
Awesome. Thank you for the detailed response!
I did mean two twin xl’s so that with the adjustable base we can do different height’s. I’m guessing the recommendation would stay the same with two twin XL’s vs a single king as each side is still configured to match each person? The bed’s will be together so need the same height so would get 13’s for both. Plus we like a taller bed.
Oh OK great! In that case, you might want to consider requesting in the comments section at checkout that we ship your mattress out to be a 10" mattress with 3" topper. You would still order the same layers, the only difference is that your bottom 3 layers will be inside the cotton and wool cover and the top layer of Talalay will go on top of that like a topper with a cover that doesn’t have any wool in it. Having a top layer that is not encased with the rest of the mattress will allow that top layer enough spatial freedom to move upwards when you lay on it, making for a very plush and enveloping feel. Aside from that, you would no longer have an inch of wool between yourself and the top layer of latex, making for an even more plush and enveloping feel. Anything you have between yourself and the latex affects how much you’re able to sink into the latex, making for a firmer feel and give the mattress more surface tension. You would be avoiding that if you order the mattress as such, and it’s really the best way to get a VERY plush latex mattress.
Oh that is great. Thank you so much!
