We are considering this mattress to be purchased from the internet. Do you have any information about this mattress or company.? It looks like it is well constructed and made in the U.S. Any information would be appreciated. Also should we be looking into latex along with foam? After reading articles on this sight it seems latex is a good choice not sure if the price would be a lot more. Thank you
Hi Jjsshealy,
Just in case you haven’t read it yet … I would make sure you’ve read the tutorial post here which has all the basic information, steps, and guidelines that you will need to make the best possible choices.
Christeli is one of the manufacturers that are listed in the memory foam list that is linked in the tutorial post (see here) and I would consider them to be among the better online choices.
A forum search on Christeli Charleston will bring up more information about it but it certainly uses good quality materials (8 lb and 5.3 lb memory foam in the comfort layers and 2.0 lb polyfoam in the support core) and there are no weak links in the mattress. It is designed to approximate the Tempurpedic Allura so if you have done some careful and objective testing on the Allura and it’s the best match for you out of the Tempurpedic lineup in terms of PPP (Posture and alignment, Pressure relief, and Personal preferences) then the Charleston would certainly be worth considering. (NOTE ADDED: they are now using 6 lb memory foam in their mattresses)
Memory foam and latex are very different materials that have very different properties but the choice between them really depends on which one you prefer. There is more about the many differences between them in post #2 here and the posts it links to but the best way to know which one you tend to prefer would be based on testing each of them in person at local retailers.
Phoenix
Hello! I have been reading on this site for a few years now, have done my due diligence, and am finally prepared to purchase a mattress. First of all, thank you to Phoenix and all of the participants on the site, who have provided a wealth of information over the years. This forum is a gold mine!
After a lot of research, testing, etc, my wife and I found the Tempur-Pedic Rhapsody Luxe to be the mattress we both feel at home on. Unwilling to pay Tempur-Pedic prices, we began the search for a company producing a mattress that they feel is similar to the Rhapsody Luxe, with the proper components to ensure durability and support, along with value. We initially pulled the trigger on a SelectFoam mattress a few years ago but cancelled when the company was unresponsive and the mattress never shipped. Thankfully, we were refunded and able to move on with our lives. We have now landed on the Christeli brand and in particular, the Charleston and Danieli. I am 5’ 11" and 220 pounds. My wife is 5’ 3" and 190 pounds, so the density of comfort and support layers is definitely one of the most important aspects of this purchase.
After browsing the thread again for the past week or so, I came upon some specs for the Christeli mattresses and it seems they have most recently reported using 6 lb foam (1" vs 2" for the Danieli and Charleston, respectively) and 5.3 lb foam for the two comfort layers (4" for both). These certainly seem like they’d leave no weak links based on the info contained in this forum.
After calling and speaking with a rep from Christeli for about thirty minutes or so today, I became a little concerned. He was quite helpful and we both came to the conclusion that the Charleston would be most likely to match what we are looking for. However, when I asked about the density of the layers in the current version of the mattress, just to be sure, the rep stated that Christeli no longer provides that information and thus he has no idea of the figures. This was a bit alarming, considering that Christeli does not currently offer a refund, only a one-time exchange. Should the components have been compromised and the densities lowered to the point of being in a range unsuitable for our weight and durability concerns, it would prove unfortunate to have purchased a Christeli mattress.
I am writing in the hope that Phoenix or perhaps another trusted member of the site has insight regarding the current densities of the foam used in the Charleston and Danieli. It’s unfortunate that Christeli does not have a return policy and now lacks transparency about its product’s components. I was okay giving it a shot based on my research and the conversation with the Christeli rep, but transparency has always been a major aspect of companies gaining membership here and to lose that makes me quite nervous. It seems that we continue to spin our wheels in an effort to find the right mattress. Here’s hoping someone can offer information the rep didn’t seem to have access to, or maybe a point of contact at Christeli who will have more info.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
