So, I’m going to need a new mattress soon and I was considering the Naturpedic EOS mattress with either micro coils on top of the base coils, or latex on top of the base coils. However, their mattresses are very expensive, so I was wondering if I could make my own. I’m 5’3”, 155 lbs, mostly a stomach sleeper but sometimes a side sleeper, so something thats a medium or medium-firm. I’ve had trouble with mattresses sagging in the past, so the idea of being able to change out a layer as needed, instead of the entire mattress, is really appealing. I would also need a cotton encasement, no wool. Thoughts? Where should I buy parts and what should I get? How are the return policies?
Im new to this but from what I’ve gathered, naturepedic uses TPS (Texas pocket springs). I believe their firm uses the 14.75 and the medium the 15.5. They also have micro coils but I’ve read that they can stiffen the 15.5 some, which based on your weight may be too firm. They also don’t take returns. You can source your latex at any of the recommended places here. I went with a talalay from sleepez. TPS also carries a cotton ticking/mattress cover. I found this list helpful Where to Buy: DIY ZIPPERED Mattress Covers | THE MATTRESS REBELLION
Thank you so much, that is all very helpful. I do have one more question, what size/height is the zipper cover for something like this? Like how do I figure out how much or what I can put inside the mattress cover? There are different coil sizes I think?
YOu are correct..Naturpedic does uses the QaudCoil. They have our Gen-O gluefree QuadCoil assembly machinery in house. The units they make are the 884 vs the 1008 that are sold on www.pocketspringstore.com.
I would go with a 15.5G for you base.
The QuadMini we sell on PSS is also an 18G vs 17G that they use. Theirs will be slightly firmer.
as for the cover, whatever the final height of your build is, that’s the height cover you should get.
Hi! We have carried and serviced Naturepedic mattresses for over a decade. You had asked about return policies - most Naturepedic showrooms and affiliates offer a layer swap within the first 90 days if you need to tweak an EOS mattress. Their warranty is 25 years. You can easily get a no-wool option also.
Also, in terms of pricing, they and we offer sales and promotions throughout the year to make their mattresses more affordable.
Hope this is helpful!
You want to get all your parts first then look into a cover. The height listed on some covers, like the flobeds one is finished. Meaning a 16 does not fit 16 inches of material, rather 14-15. The type of cover will also dictate the end result as some will give a drum effect if no stretch is permitted. If you find that you like your build as is before the cover, something with a stretch will be best.
If you go with TPS coils, they are only available to us in 8 inch. Arizona premium mattress has some 6in but I’d lean towards tps.
