DIY mattress core questions

I’m trying to decide on the core to use for my mattress that I will be using with a 3 inch topper, which will be either Latex or Memory foam. I know it’s a very personal decision, but any advice on how I can decide between Latex, Foam, or coils? What is the main difference I’m going to notice between them? I have slept on a 100% latex mattress before and my only complaint was that as you shift around or sit on the edge, you sink way into it, so I’m leaning towards coil for that reason, unless anyone knows a form or latex core that wont cave so easily? In terms of coils, what’s going to be the difference between 6 and 8 inch? And what’s the difference I’m going to notice between Caliber Edge, Quantum Edge, or Combi-Zoned? I do prefer 6 inch incase I want to add additional layers to it, I don’t want the whole mattress to get larger than 13 inches. Also, will I need a transition layer or a layer on the bottom side? I’m a back sleeper, about 220lbs. Thanks!

I think you just had a core that was too soft for your body weight. If going with coils all of our coils are Firm with the Combi Zone having extra coils in the lumbar area which is beneficial for a back or stomach sleeper. Both 6" coils are straight up firm with the QE Bolsa having more coils and thus being able to mold better to your body curves. No bottom layer needed, that’s only used for high compression packaging purposes which we don’t use. A transition layer is not needed but nice to have, as long as you have at least 3" on top of the coil you should be good.

Is that suitable for a memory foam topper too, or would it be better to use a foam core?
