We’re trying to find a happy middle ground for a mattress that will work for both of us: 5’7", 205 lbs & 6’1", 380 lbs. We both sleep side/back, and prefer a cooler mattress.
Ken was super helpful with my initial inquiry on his site–he recommended a firm latex core, with firm and medium toppers. Browsing the selection there, it seems like this might work:
6" Dunlop 36 ILD + 3" Talalay 32 ILD + 3" Talalay 28 ILD
But I do wonder if that’ll be too firm for the smaller of us. Looking for thoughts about that plan, or advice on brands/models to try in a store that would approximate the same feel? I’m also interested in any options to have a sort of “zoned” latex with different firmness for each side. We’re on Chicago’s north side, if anyone knows quality shops to visit.
I will stick with my original recommendation for the one who is 380. We can do a dual firmness design where the left side is a different firmness than the right side. For the one who is 205 you can go a little softer. Keep the same base layer for both but a #28 then #19 will work for the lighter person assuming they sleep mostly on their side. If not then double up on the #28. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Hi Ken! That sounds fantastic. Is there a special way to order dual-firmness layers? I don’t see that option.
Choose one firmness or the other and during checkout there is a comment section. There you will write “Please make this 1/2 19 1/2 28”. We highlight those comments for the production team.
Just sent the order! We really appreciate the guidance, thanks.
No problem, thank you for the order.
