Just wanted to throw out this and see what ppl think about it. I have a 28 ILD medium dunlop from Latex Mattress Factory. It’s ok but Im wondering if I can get something somewhere that is somewhat less firm (i know that’s vague). It could be softer but I dont want too soft. I dont want to go too far in the other direction. Plushbeds has a 24ILD which im considering. I was also wondering about Sleep on Latex medium. WOuld that be firmer than the one I have from LMF. I know the ILD info is limited for comparison purposes.
Our #28 Talalay will offer a slightly softer feel than the equivalent dunlop - Talalay & Dunlop Latex Toppers - Bare, Latex Mattress Toppers and Cores, All Products,
I already have a 28 talalay but ty.
Hi Nate,
Can you provide a little more information on the mattress you have currently? Is it an all latex mattress with a 28 ILD layer? Is it a 2" or 3" layer? Or is it a topper? If it’s a topper what is underneath? Springs or Latex? How many layers are in the mattress and what are they?
If you also can provide your height and weight, that helps narrow it down to make a more informed recommendation.
You can get a 19 ILD Talalay topper to soften up whatever you have and it can be made in either a quilted cover or a plain organic cotton cover which will also affect the ultimate feel of the topper.

Just a simple DIY. Currently 3" layer bought as a topper above 8" bolsa coils. Zipped in a mattress encasement (quitled). So two layers coils + latex with some wool batting too. Height 6’0" ~220 lbs. I already have a 2" 19 ILD tal topper which i may try. WOndering about dunlop specifically. Bit confused about densities and ilds too. I gues it depends on how they manufacture the latex.
Hi Nate,
Yes latex is a bit varied and can be inconsistent. Just remember that the Density is the weight and the ILD is the “feel” and why it is a range instead of a fixed number. The Dunlop is always a bit denser and has less of the sponginess that Talalay has. We typically step down in firmness for Dunlop when comparing it to a Talalay feel. For instance a 55D Dunlop will be closer to the Soft (N1) Talalay, but still not feel quite the same.
The coils are the wild card, because they come in so many shapes, sizes, counts, and gauges. I am more of an expert in all latex. Piling a bunch of latex on top of coils almost defeats the purpose of having coils in the first place in my opinion. Keep in mind that if the coils start sagging everything on top will sag with it.
Good luck!
Angela
TY for the reply. Yes I wouldnt go much above 3" above the coils in latex. I agree in allowing the coils to do their job.
