DYI Latex Mattress Setup questions

Hello,

I have a few questions and could use some advice.

I am a 165 lbs male and my wife is 105.
We are mixed sleepers, mostly probably because our current bed is really bad and its hard to say constantly what we prefer.
I would say my wife is mostly side and back. I’m all over the place but am thinking I will be more back with some side… unfortunately i also end up stomach at times too.

My current plan is this.
1.5 inch serene foam (for plush feel)
3 inch soft talalay
3 inch med talalay
9 inch firm foam mattress as a base.

Questions
Does this setup sound like a good start ?
Should I do 2 inches in either latex instead of 3?
Does the firm foam mattress sound ok as a base?
Should the latex toppers be covered independently or together?
Should I go with a padded cover or will the serene foam be good enough to give plush feel with a non padded cover?

Any other thoughts or suggestions?
I really appreciate your help with this.

Good questions. I’m a latex guy so I have no idea what serene foam is. Unless you want it extra high you could easily use a 6" or 7" poly base instead of 9". The latex layers are a good choice. One quilted cover for everything should be fine. If the serene foam is a memory foam or poly foam derivative I don’t believe you will get more than about a year of use out of it. Super soft latex would give you at least a little more durability and non toxic.

Thank you very much for the reply.

The foam will give it a plush feel and help regulate temperature from what I understand.
I know that wont last more then a year or so, I’m ok with that, the rest should last for a good long time.

Thank you again.

My pleasure, good luck with the project.
