Hello, I was close to purchasing a king from habitat furnishings before finding this site. I’ve been following y’all and trying to make all the distinctions between manufacturers, prices, and materials. I will say I actually appreciated habitats simple lineup and did not find their prices that different from some of the members here. They do carry foundations, maybe this has changed? Anyway, I’m now deciding between Arizona and sleepez. Sleepez has a great sale on the combination I prefer (6in Dunlop 2 in talalay). But it is noy part of the mote recognized lineup (select 1000 series) so I’m nervous about the difference. Shawn said people buy the special for the price, but also for the cover. It is apparently a cotton/rayon combination instead of wool. I’ve not seen this. I’ve only seen wool. He assures me it is still a natural retardant (no chemicals) which is important to me. The shipping is significantly faster than Arizona (especially regarding comments I’ve read here that even the 3 week promise of Arizona falls short at times). So… What should I know about the difference between a wool based and a rayon based cover? If the latter is jut as good or better, sleepez is the better deal, but I’m willing to pay more and wait longer for Arizona if the wool has significant advantages. Thanks in advance for your help!
We are having a similar discussion at our house right now…cotton/wool quilted cover vs stretchy knit cover. I love the warmth and thermal regulating properties of wool, and my husband loves the feel of latex and prefers the thinest possible cover. I am also wanting to avoid synthetics (bamboo, rayon, polyester) because I sleep hot. Although, some people have no issue with these covers.
Of course, the price difference is significant. My friends have purchased two of Shawn’s (SleepEZ) “specials” that you are considering and LOVE them. Carol said that every time someone sleeps in her guest bed, they ask about the incredible mattress.
We opted for a DIY approach and have already purchased a 6" firm core + 3" medium topper…now seeking a softer comfort layer and a cover. We are avoiding FRs (flame retardants) and prefer organic cotton, although the price is dramatically higher.
Good Luck! Phoenix has posted lots on the properties of wool and it’s perceived impact on “feel” of latex. I’m not sure how to attach links, but if you go to the “Search Forum” tab near the middle of the page (not at the top), you’ll find LOTS more info.
Thank you, I’ll search when toddler allows somehow I he dying all natural if rayon is synthetic? Hmmmm…
SPeaking of toddler I had help typing, sorry. How is he saying its still all natural fire retardant if rayon is synthetic? Simply because it’s not chemical retardants?
Rayon is difficult to classify! This link describes it as “semi-synthetic”:
Enjoy your toddler :cheer:
Thamls so much for taking the time to reply. I feel like there are so many hidden issues that require knowin exactly what questions to ask… Which I don’t! I don’t feel strongly about organic cotton, but do feel strongly about off gassing and chemical retardants. So maybe this one will work for us. I appreciate hearing your friend’s experience. I will search the forum for other discussion on wool. I’ve heard some day it’s te only way to go, and of that is majority, im willing to pay a bit more. Shawn says the rayon is for those who want to feel the latex more? Thanks again. It’s helpful to process with others!
I asked Shawn which one is more popular, and he said he sells far more of the cotton/wool covers. It’s a tough choice, though! He sells the covers alone for $495.
And don’t forget to ask for your TMU 5% discount
Hi buttercupbetty,
Just to clarify and make sure there is no misunderstanding … for the most part the 5% discount or bonus is on “mattress only” purchases (see the list here) … although of course it never hurts to ask.

Thanks pheonix, the purchase is a mattress only. Just trying to decide if I want to go with sleepez deal that has rayon instead of wool, or spend more for the wool/cotton combo at Arizona premium. Te sleepez is everything I want otherwise, Dunlop/talalay combo. Any thoughts on the rayon/cotton cover? It’s a good deal if that’s not a deal breaker!
…I’m pretty sure SleepEZ has high quality cotton/wool cases too, organic if I’m not mistaken. I don’t know if you can get it on the special you referred to, but I’m pretty sure they offer them. I’m sure it’d cost more than bamboo rayon.
Hi Sckendrick,
You can see a picture of it here which I believe is current (although the lighting makes it look darker than it apparently is). It’s a good quality stretch knit and of course is less costly than a wool quilted cotton cover (which SleepEz also provides on their other mattresses). If you call them they can give you any more specific information that you may need.
You can also read more about the tradeoffs between a stretch knit cover and a wool quilted cover in post #6 here.

Thanks!
