Hartford-area mattress companies

I’d love to try out some of the mattress foam and latex mattress brands discussed on the site in person, but I haven’t seen much around my area except for Sleepy’s or department stores. Can you recommend any places in the Hartford-area where I could try out different mattresses and perhaps talk to someone with some expertise?

Thank you!

Hi mikrobb1,

Post #2 and #4 here include the factory direct manufacturers that are closest to you.

Post #4 here includes the retail stores I’m aware of that are closest to you that may also be worth including in your research.

Phoenix

Perfect - Puritan Furniture is nearby and they sell Gold Bond, which I know nothing about. To this point, I’ve been considering the DreamFoam Ultimate Dreams 13" or the SelectFoam Cirrus Supreme 11". Do you know if Gold Bond offers anything comparable in feeling to those mattresses at a similar price level? Or can you speak more generally about Gold Bond as compared to those other brands? I’m a 6’ 160-lb side-sleeper.

Thanks!

Hi mikrobb1,

The “feel” of a mattress is purely subjective and the only way to know how similar one mattress may “feel” to you compared to another is with your own personal side by side testing. Gold Bond does make some memory foam mattresses that may have relatively good quality and value but your own personal testing is the best way to know how well they match your needs and preferences in terms of PPP (Posture and alignment, Pressure relief, and Personal preferences).

Gold Bond is a privately owned manufacturer that is over 100 years old that tends to use higher quality materials in their mattresses than other larger manufacturers and the odds are also higher that you will be able to find out the specific materials in any of their mattresses if the retailer (or you) calls the factory. They also make two sided mattresses which are more durable than equivalent one sided mattresses. Of course it’s always important for the retailer to either know or find out the quality of all the layers and components in the mattress so you can make meaningful quality and value comparisons with other mattresses (including the ones you mentioned). You can read a little more of my thoughts about Gold Bond in post #3 here and a forum search on gold bond (you can just click this) will bring up more about them as well.
