I have just recently purchased a Dormio Matress from Canada, 11 inch with an organic wool topper. My partner and I found we did not agree and thus ended up with a split queen, FMMS and FMSS, surprisingly I ended up liking the firm.
I am a side sleeper and really like the wool pillow in store.
Well after getting jt home I love it, but after sleeping it seems to squish out too much and then my head sinks too low as I have broad shoulders.
I did not like the shredded latex pillows I tried as they seemed quite firm.
That’s a lot of words to ask if anyone has ever bought or found a hybrid pillow of wool and latex to combine the benefits of both and keep it in shape throughout the night?
Welcome to the Mattress UnderGround. I am a big pillow nut see my collection here.
I have found that the latex noodle fill works best for filling a pillow. I like it better than shredded latex. @CozyPure makes an excellent Baa-Noodle pillow.
I find that it keeps it’s shape and the wool side is great to sleep on. I have a few solid and shredded latex pillows. The solid ones are too bouncy for me as I feel like I am fighting it all night bobbing around in my bed. (My wife loves the all latex pillow, though.) Shredded latex can be a bit lumpy, although a good quilted wool pillow cover can solve that.
You could attempt to make your own, by buying latex noodles and wool batting, but it takes time and if you only need one or two pillows, it may not be worth the hassle.
If you look at the cozypure baa-noodle pillow, add the extra bag of noodles for the small additional cost. It is always good to have and you would be set if you want to make another pillow with more even amount of wool and noodles, by buying a roll of wool. Cozypure does a nice job with the pillow. I had to add more fill, as I am 6’ 220 and wanted a firmer pillow, so it was good that I bought extra.
The unique thing about the latex noodles is that you dont feel like you are bouncing around on the pillow. You sink in a bit, much like memory foam, but it is actually a softer landing, nicely supportive, and you wont sleep hot on it.
The noodles displace under your head and neck, so your are supported and comfortable.
Of all my pillows, I tend to rotate between the wool and latex noodles, horsehair, and all wool. I have combinations of all these in some form or another. I like to experiments so I have all the components, pillow inner liners, wool, noodles, horsehair, so I am tweaking and experimenting every so often.
Bottom line, for simplicity, get the CozyPure Baa-Noodle.
No, i have not specifically tried the Obasan. But it looks like a winner. What could be bad with that combination! I prefer latex noodles over shredded latex because of the feel of noodles. They do feel different, but the shedding wrapped in quilted wool and then cotton should mask any lumpiness fir a great feel.
Let me know how you like it if you try it, as it appears to be a new item!
I am sure @TheCleanBedroom may have some experiece with it as they do quite well with Obasan products.
Thanks for pointing this new pillow out, you piqued my intrest! Great combination of materials.
The Deluxe pillow is very popular for us - and the nice thing is that it is adjustable, so if you need more or less thickness, you can move the filling in or out.
I can’t speak personally to the latex version, but I’ve had an adjustable wool pillow from Obasan for 4.5 years and it still works well. The wool is durable and gives good support.
