Hi ZRM,
Welcome to the Mattress UnderGround. I am a big pillow nut see my collection here.
I have found that the latex noodle fill works best for filling a pillow. I like it better than shredded latex. @CozyPure makes an excellent Baa-Noodle pillow.
I find that it keeps it’s shape and the wool side is great to sleep on. I have a few solid and shredded latex pillows. The solid ones are too bouncy for me as I feel like I am fighting it all night bobbing around in my bed. (My wife loves the all latex pillow, though.) Shredded latex can be a bit lumpy, although a good quilted wool pillow cover can solve that.
You could attempt to make your own, by buying latex noodles and wool batting, but it takes time and if you only need one or two pillows, it may not be worth the hassle.
If you look at the cozypure baa-noodle pillow, add the extra bag of noodles for the small additional cost. It is always good to have and you would be set if you want to make another pillow with more even amount of wool and noodles, by buying a roll of wool. Cozypure does a nice job with the pillow. I had to add more fill, as I am 6’ 220 and wanted a firmer pillow, so it was good that I bought extra.
The unique thing about the latex noodles is that you dont feel like you are bouncing around on the pillow. You sink in a bit, much like memory foam, but it is actually a softer landing, nicely supportive, and you wont sleep hot on it.
The noodles displace under your head and neck, so your are supported and comfortable.
Of all my pillows, I tend to rotate between the wool and latex noodles, horsehair, and all wool. I have combinations of all these in some form or another. I like to experiments so I have all the components, pillow inner liners, wool, noodles, horsehair, so I am tweaking and experimenting every so often.
Bottom line, for simplicity, get the CozyPure Baa-Noodle.
Hope this helps,
Maverick
