Ok, I’m now on mattress #5.
First was a SleepEZ all latex. Great mattress, comfortable, cool. Too much motion transfer, the latex had a very jiggly quality to it (maybe it was the talalay top layer).
Then an Engineered Sleep hybrid with memory foam comfort layer. Didn’t like it overall, still more motion transfer than I’d like.
Then a GhostBed Luxe, not comfortable enough.
Then a Helix Midnight Luxe, pretty comfortable and cool, but still more motion transfer than I’d like.
Now I’m on night 2 of a Leesa Original all foam mattress, thinking that all foam will mostly eliminate motion transfer. I think it does. But wow this mattress is hot! I’m waking up in the middle of the night covered in sweat 2 nights in a row now and my sleep quality is poor because of it. So not a keeper either.
I’m at a loss on what to try next, particularly since review sites are so unreliable and are basically misinformation machines.
It seems like on paper a latex hybrid would be the most comfortable and most cool, but probably also the worst for motion transfer. What are ultra-low motion transfer options that are also very cool and breathable?
Hello bleep,
It sounds like you are conducting a very thorough (if frustrating) search. If I read you correctly, you are looking for a king mattress with low motion transfer and excellent temperature regulation.
A hybrid can work well, but it depends on what type of coils are on the support layer. Individually pocketed coils will lessen the motion transfer and conform to your body more effectively than coils that are simply a row or layer of coils.
A split king mattress (hybrid or latex) can lessen the motion transfer as well.
Natural materials will typically be more breathable than synthetics - so an all-natural or organic latex mattress can be a good option if you are looking for better temperature regulation.
Best of luck to you in your search - if we can help, let us know.

Thanks. I’ve tried the all latex already (see in my comment my reference to a SleepEZ all latex mattress) and although the prevalent thinking is that all latex should be very low motion transfer, in my experience it was quite the opposite. I loved sleeping on it (in terms of feel it was maybe overall my favorite of all the ones I tried) but with another person it was constant motion transfer. Very jiggly.
So if I can somehow get the sleep feel of that, but with as little motion transfer as possible, that’s what I’m looking for.
Also slept on 2 hybrids, both with pocketed coils and it’s still more motion transfer than I would’ve liked. Maybe not all pocketed coils are made equally (in fact I’m sure they’re not) and there is a type out there that is extremely good in terms of motion isolation, but so far I haven’t experienced that across two brands.
Ah, I see. The talalay may be a little more jiggly than dunlop which is a denser feel. (I sleep on an all dunlop mattress)
Also, ask how many pocketed coils the support coil layer has. The more there are, theoretically, the more it conforms and the less motion transfer. How snug is the cover? And what is the mattress sitting on? Just a couple more things to think about.
