I need help finding good qulity mattress brands

I have been looking for a good quality mattress brand that does not overprice for a while. I have looked at name brand options and decided I can’t trust any of them. So, I have been considering off brands like Nectar, Layla, BROOKLYN Bedding, and DreamFoam. However, I’m not knowledgeable enough about mattresses. I have looked at the tutorials on this site, but they are just hard for me to use. I was wondering if anyone could help me verify if any of these brands are good or if there are better off-brand mattress companys.

Hey Trinton,
Welcome to TMU. Hopefully, one of us or our trusted members can guide to a great night’s sleep.
So, I own one of the brands mentioned. More important is exactly what are you looking for? PPP (Posture and alignment, Pressure relief, and Personal preferences), your body profile height and weight. Or do you simply have some general guidelines?
Even a great quality mattress, may not be the best mattress for your features. It is the combination of quality combined with your preferences that will check the necessary boxes.

Well I toss and turn but mostly sleep on my side, I need one that is medium or plush medium, cause I have slight back pain when on my back, and I am 5’9 and 172lb.

Hi Trinton,
Thanks for some of the information you have added. Normally, and everyone is different, but for side sleepers who toss and turn, you may not want to go too plush. If the mattress is too soft and you are on your back or stomach it will cause the muscles to strain and you may roll on your side to try and alleviate the situation. Brooklyn Bedding and Dreamfoam will give you all the information about their mattresses. Thickness of each layer, ILD, density, gauge of coils, number of turns, all of it. You just need to go to their chat function and they will provide it without hesitation. Nectar sources their foams from all around the globe. There can be issues with so many different sources for their materials, that if you try one mattress style in one location, it may not feel the same as the one you get delivered to your home. I would stick with manufacturers that identify their materials and are transparent about where they are sourced and what they consist of. Preferably sourced in the USA. Now there are some exceptions. There is a company in the Netherlands (Vita) that is a large quality talalay latex manufacturer and produce quality latex as does talalay global, right here in the USA. Some companies source their wool from Australia. Generally excellent quality.
At this point, I would recommend you randomly try a few mattresses locally to sure up what your preferences really are. There are trusted members here who can reproduce just about any level of firmness that you would find out on the street, but with quality materials. Now I don’t mean to scare you, but you may lay on a mattress, brand X. It may feel great in the 10-minute store trial, but it may be made with materials that are likely to fail faster than what your expectations would prefer. As long as you find a comfort level, it will make it easier to offer suggestions that are likely to last longer due to the increase in quality of materials of an alternative mattress, or perhaps you nailed it on the first shot.
Most of the trusted members here are not afraid to tell you that you made an excellent choice, even though it may be a competitor. I have found the member manufacturers and retailers to really be more focused on helping folks find the right mattress regardless of what mattress the individual chooses.

Personally, I have a BB mattress and love it. At your height and weight, the BB Signature Hybrid Medium or the Dreamfoam Latex Medium are nice choices for your body profile. So, if you have the opportunity to try either, both are nice mattresses as is the Ecosleep from BB. So, in the BinB market, they are nice choices. Then you have quite a few choices from our Trusted members.
Hopefully, this gives you a head start. I am sure others will want to jump in and offer some advice too.
Depending on where you live, you may be able to visit some member locations. One person here purchased a great mattress from Shovlin Mattress, and independent mattress manufacturer in NJ. She and her husband, could not be happier. Another purchased from FloBeds and got his perfect match.
There is something here to match every person’s PPP.
I wish you luck as you continue your journey.
