hi there! I am interested in your latexlux mattress for my husband and I. We are currently sleeping on a luxury firm winkbed and I am waking up with back pain most mornings. I am looking for something with a boyant feel that still cushions and conforms to curves without sinking through the foam layers. My kids have a latex hybrid so I know I enjoy the feel of latex. Wondering your thoughts. Thank you!
Thank you for your interest in DLX! With any mattress, identifying the root cause of back pain can be challenging.
Based on your description, the LatexLux could be worth considering. The latex provides a buoyant feel while still cushioning and conforming, and the 1-1/2" of high-density foam in the quilting helps mellow that latex feel, which might address the discomfort you’re experiencing.
To offer a more tailored recommendation, could you share the brand, model, and firmness rating of your kids’ latex hybrid? Additionally, knowing what mattress you had before the WinkBed, along with your height, weight, and sleep positions, would help us make a more informed recommendation.

I layed on the Avocado Green plush mattress and discovered I liked the feel of latex over coils. I also discovered that price of this mattress was higher than I could afford. DLX latex lux looks promising and more affordable (when on sale). I wonder how the two compare!
A few advantages of the LatexLux is that it comes in two heights, a 12" and a 14" using either a 6" or an 8" coil support system. The DLX also offers 4 firmness latex levels, and the ability to split the internal latex layer in a queen and a king.
When “testing” a mattress, a 15 - 30 minute lay down in the show room does not quite reveal the exact experience you are going to have at home in your bedroom under the climate conditions in your room. The “Test” may help you eliminate what is clearly too soft, and offer a sense of how lying on latex feels verses other comfort layer materials, such a memory foam, HD foam, HR foam, and natural fibers. It has a buoyant feel, conforms to the body nicely without feeling like you are stuck in the mattress, and fosters nice full body support and alignment.
However, a mattress system and comfort does not stop with just the mattress. The foundation is quite critical. You want to ensure you have a foundation or adjustable foundation that if slatted, offers a rigid, with not flex slat, spaced less than 3" apart, or if an adjustable base, one that provides a solid base rather than a metal grid style surface.
For example, I have been testing a mattress that I had on the floor in my finished basement testing room. When I moved it to the guest bedroom, the mattress felt noticeably different on a semiflex box spring (even with a solid, but thin bunkie board on the semiflex). The mattress still performed nicely in both settings, but there was a difference. You need to ask what foundation was being used in the showroom you tested the mattress, to understand what you might expect when you get it home to your particular bed frame set up. I outline some reasons not to skimp on your bed frame here. It is not an endorsement of any particular manufacturer, just some that came to mind as I was writing the post.
Your pillow will also pay a starring role in your comfort on the mattress and can be the difference between a great night’s sleep and a stiff neck and sore back. So you may need some time to adjust on any new bedding combination you build. Here is a little diddy regarding pillows.
@DLX customer service is among the best in the industry, their trial and warranties are excellent. It would definitely be worth a chat with them directly to go over your specific questions on the performance of their latex lux options.
All the best,
Maverick
Thanks for considering DLX—and it’s great to hear from you again!
@Maverick brings up a great point: while the mattress plays the biggest role in your comfort, it’s only one part of the equation. A proper foundation, supportive frame, and even your pillow can all influence how the mattress feels and performs over time.
Regarding the Avocado Green Plush, it uses latex over coils, and if you liked that feel, then you’re likely drawn to that buoyant yet supportive surface latex offers. That said, while both Avocado and our LatexLux model use pocketed coils and latex, the similarities pretty much end there.
The Avocado Plush uses only latex and wool above the coil unit and is hand-tufted, which creates a firmer sleeping surface. In contrast, our LatexLux layers high-density foam and natural latex above the coils to create a slightly more contouring, cushiony feel—still responsive and supportive, but with a different kind of softness and feel.
It’s not that one is better than the other—it’s more about which feel you prefer. Some people love the feel of both, while others find one clearly works better for them.
That said, while DLX can be a great option—especially if you’re looking for something more affordable than Avocado—if you felt the Avocado Plush was hands-down the best mattress you’ve ever tried and nothing else came close, DLX might not be the right fit. The feel isn’t identical, and if you’re chasing that exact experience, it could be hard to replicate.
Still, if you’re open to something that offers a similar concept (latex over coils) with a different feel—and one that aligns more closely with your budget—our LatexLux might be worth a try. We’re happy to talk through it further and help you weigh the options.
