Hi Micaelahm. Welcome to the community and thank you for your question.
Based on your priorities, pressure relief, spinal support, cooling, and overall sleep quality, it appears that you and your husband have slightly sleep habits.
Your husband, as a side sleeper with shoulder pain, would benefit from a mattress that offers good contouring and pressure relief at the shoulders, while you, as a combination sleeper dealing with cervical and lower back pain, need both spinal alignment and comfort in multiple positions. A very supportive rigid foundation and a great pillow is something you should investigate, as you would be surprised how much a great pillow can make. Since you’re both on the lighter side at around 140 lbs, you’re less likely to need an extremely firm mattress, and more likely to benefit from a mattress that balances cushioning with moderate support.
Looking at the King Koil Azalea Luxury Firm, it may offer solid support, but its firmness and polyfoam layers could pose issues. For side sleeping and lighter-weight users, especially with shoulder pain involved, it might feel too firm and lead to pressure points. One comment I have is they make the Azalea sound like an all natural mattress. While it is a very impressive mattress, it is not all natural. How much so, is hard to tell as they do not offer much information about how the mattress is constructed, other than to mention the various components.
The King Koil Orchid Plush has some promise. You noted that you liked the feel of the Jasmine in a medium Eurotop, and it appears that the Orchid Plush is similar. The caveat, again, is whether the synthetic foam components in the Orchid Plush are adequately temperature-regulating and the direction you intended to go, thinking your mattress as all natural.
The European Sleep Works Nordic II HDM appears to be the most aligned with your overall preferences. I have tried this mattress and it is just fantastic. It offers excellent support and high-density microcoils, along with natural latex, typically result in superior spinal alignment, pressure relief, and airflow. Latex is naturally cooling, durable, and hypoallergenic, making it an excellent choice for hot sleepers with chronic pain. While the price is an issue, it often reflects the quality, longevity, and overall sleep benefits that may make it worth the investment, especially for couples with mixed sleep needs like yours.
Overall, if your budget allows, the Nordic II HDM is likely the best option for sleep quality, comfort, and cooling. In looking at the prices at Macy’s, I am not seeing where the issue of price is an issue. It appears to me, that the Nordic is a better value. Unless Macy’s is having some significant reduction in price.
You’ll also want to consider which company is more likely to be around long-term to support you if any service is needed. While King Koil makes a very nice mattress, the fact that it’s currently listed as a clearance item raises a small red flag for me. In contrast, European Sleep is fully dedicated to creating customized sleep systems and offers exceptional customer service. Their entire focus is on helping clients find long-term sleep solutions from every angle.
I know it sounds a bit bias, and perhaps because my experience with @EuropeanSleep was nothing short of amazing, and I found their Nordic II and Heritage mattresses just crazy good, I think it would be a great choice. Ultimately, you will have to make that decision based on your budget and comfort.
Hopefully this offers a little insight
All the best,
Maverick
