Latex ILD Ratings + Latex Build Help!

Hi Sleep EZ! I am in the process of building an all latex mattress and after 2.5 months of experimenting I am getting tired lol Mentally and physically! I have yet to try your company, but would love your advice to see if you guys could offer me a solution. I am 5’5” and 105 pounds. I prefer a firmer mattress and have chronic back pain and a low back herniated disc. I do need some pressure relief I think, as I like to sleep on my sides and back. Trying to find a set up that works for both has been tricky.

I currently have all organic dunlop from bottom base to top:

3” Firm 46 IDL

3” Medium 34 ILD (don’t think I am liking this β€œtransition” layer for some reason)

2” Soft 20 ILD

**I also have two other organic latex toppers I am playing around with to try to find the right configuration which is a 2” soft/medium and 3” soft/medium both at 14-19 ILD. Those are from Avocado and are supposedly dunlop, but feel very soft and squishy, more like talalay.**

Anyway! I have yet to find a great configuration. Funny enough, when I placed the 3” avocado 14-19 ILD straight on top of the 3” firm 46 ILD, I slept the best. But a 6 inch mattress feels a little too low/could use a bit more support. It was a desperate attempt lol I think maybe I need a more medium layer in the 26 ILD range? I have no idea. Would love to hear your thoughts and if you could let me know your ILD ratings for each of your layers I would greatly appreciate!

All my best

Hi cupcake25 and thanks for the inquiry! I think you might do best on 3” of the 14-19 ILD layer over the 3” 46 ILD layer and a 3” extra firm Dunlop layer at the bottom. For both Talalay and Dunlop, our soft is 19-22 ILD, medium is 30-32 ILD, firm is 37-40 ILD, and extra firm is 44 ILD. In terms of actual densities, soft is 65 kg per cubic meter, medium is 75, firm is 85, and extra firm is 95. Soft is 4.06 pounds per cubic foot, medium is 4.68, firm is 5.31, and extra firm is 5.93.

Thank you so much for your reply! So just to be clear you recommend from bottom to top:

44 ILD (from you)

46 ILD

14-19 ILD

or did I misunderstand? And I’m assuming you don’t find it necessary for the 26ish ILD layer to be incorporated anywhere? Thanks again β—‘Μˆ

Yes exactly! No need for the 26 ILD layer as far as I can tell.

Is there a reason why you recommend the 44 on the bottom and not in the middle?

If you liked the feel of the 14-19 ILD layer over the 46 ILD layer but you just want to make the setup taller, the best way to make it taller without affecting the firmness much is to put the 44 ILD layer under the 46 ILD layer.
