Latex with memory foam comfort layer?

Hey all,

Being a lurker in the mattress underground has made me an absolute preacher of latex as superior material for bed use not only for its durability, but also its health benefits as opposed to synthetic materials. With that said, I would love to use a latex mattress myself myself.

My partner and I are about 5 foot eight, 155 pounds. We are both struggling with a 100% latex mattress - 19 ILD Talalay, 28ILD Dunlop, 38ILD Dunlop. For me, shoulder pain, for them, general pain in multiple spots.

Would it be crazy to slap a memory foam topper on top? If we need the pressure relief as side sleepers? Or do we risk throwing off alignment? Would we be better off getting rid of the soft talalay and putting the memory foam on top of the medium Dunlop instead?

This search is so complex…

Thanks everyone.

You should try the Tenpurpedic Serenity 3 inch from Costco. Easy returns!!! Looks like you dont really like latex. Tempurpedic memory foam rocks!

Hi Rawr and thanks for reaching out on this! There’s no wrong way to set up a mattress, as long as you’re comfortable. There’s nothing crazy about adding memory foam to an all latex mattress, and once you get the topper in your home, you can try it both on top of the mattress or inside the mattress with the Talalay on top to see which one you like better.

If your mattress has split layers, you can take a half of a soft Talalay topper out of the other side of the mattress, put it on top of the mattress on the side you normally sleep on to lay on it for a bit and see if you’d prefer a soft Talalay topper. Or, if the top panel of the mattress cover removeable, you can just take the top panel off so you can see the latex and sleep directly on the latex, and this will also give you an idea of what a soft Talalay topper would feel like.
