TL:DR
PPP Reference point: Bedinabox Tranquility bed, but looking for a more durable alternative (thanks for the enlightenment, MU!)
Size: Queen
Mattress Type: Memory Foam w/ Gel or other ways to keep cool
Big concern areas: Heat retention, durability (really want to maximize bed use for a heavy, ~250lb person)
Hello,
I’ve been shopping for a bed for my brother for his birthday (he’s LOONG overdue for a new bed).
Backstory: A few years back, I purchased the Tranquility bed from Bedinabox and I love it. Durability wise it’s holding up well, but it’s really only been ~2 years. However, this was before I heard of MU, so I know I should be looking for a bed that’ll last him longer.
In terms of PPP suitability, my brother has slept on this bed in the past and likes it. However, due to the 3lb density of bedinabox and differences between him and me (he’s ~270lbs and lives in a 15degree hotter area than me), I have concerns about heat retention and durability for the bed I purchase for him.
I wanted to see if I could get some recommendations on some greater durability mattresses, or at least a few more starting points for research. I’ve read the beginner posts and also read a few of the specific forum posts of other users here looking for similar beds (I know the basics on what to look for, stay away from major brands, etc).
Pricewise, I’m happy to spend ~$1500 for the right bed, but cheaper is always better and i’m looking towards your guidance in terms of making sure i’m buying quality, which it seems I could even get for sub $1000. Unfortunately, I’m a ~5hr drive from my brother so I can’t really shop locally (i know he should be the one doing it ideally, but it’s not an option right now). Given the situation, ordering online is a great option, especially if there’s a forgiving return / exchange policy in place.
I’m looking at the MU Membership List. Any good starting points for comparable feel beds as what I have? Dreamfoam seems pretty popular, but many of their options seem a bit on the softer side. I also saw a few recommend Brooklyn Bedding (and I know you highly regard them), but I’m looking to gauge cheaper alternatives first before deciding to splurge.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading and for the help.
