I’m looking at getting the DLX Premier Hybrid, but unsure about what firmness level to get. I am 5’10 160 and my wife is 5’2 125. I am mostly a back sleeper with some side and she is a strictly a side sleeper with shoulder problems. Currently we are sleeping on a Purple Plus, I find it too soft for me I get lower back pain from it, but wife thinks the softness is fine but not a fan of comfort. Before the Purple, we had a Luxerion Hybrid from LatexMattressFactory. My wife loved the mattress she still says to this day she wishes we kept it, but for me my back just didnt react nicely to latex I feel like the bounce back feeling of latex causes some weird misalignment in my back. So latex for me is a nogo. For me i like the more traditional style of mattresses with a luxury feel, ie I tried the Sterns and Foster Lux Estate medium tight top and really found it comfortable in the store. But i have some quality control concerns with SF so i am staying away.
Is the DLX Premier Hybrid the right fit for us? Worried that the foam in this mattress is similar to latex hybird which I didn’t like. And if you think it is the right fit, I am unsure if I should get half Soft for my wife and half Medium or just go full medium. Or should I be going firm for my side?
Based on your height, weight, and sleep positions, most people in your situation would likely find the Premier 14" Hybrid comfortable and the ability to customize firmness for each side and adjust with the first 120 nights or even 5 years down the road reduces the risk of selection the wrong firmness.
To your question about whether it feels like a latex hybrid: in our opinion, it doesn’t. The Premier uses quilted foam in the cover, which your previous latex hybrid likely didn’t. The 3" comfort layer is made from high-density 2.4 lb polyurethane foam (not latex) so it has a different feel. Most people describe the Premier as feeling like a more traditional mattress, and not buoyant and resilient like latex.
Since you liked the Stearns & Foster Lux Estate Medium Tight Top in the showroom, there’s a good chance you’ll like the Premier as well. That said, because our foams are higher density, they often feel firmer than expected so if you liked the Stearns in medium, you might find the Soft version of the Premier to be a better match. Of course, everyone is different, but the nice thing with the Premier is that you’re not stuck. If the firmness isn’t right, we offer a one-time comfort adjustment within 120 nights at no cost.
If your wife preferred the latex hybrid, we can offer a custom split where your side uses our polyfoam and hers uses latex. It’s an “off the menu” option, but something we do for customers who need it. If you’re interested, just email us at [email protected] and we’ll send you a private link to order. The only difference between the LatexLux and the Premier is the 3"comfort layer, and since latex is $200 more, the cost for a half-and-half split would be $100 extra.
